Results
Led by a quartet of sophomores, the American University men's
cross country team claimed nine of the top-10 places in Friday's
Mount St. Mary's 5K Duals. Not to be outdone, the women's team's
own sophomore sensation, Octavia Rinehardt, strode to victory
herself as the men's team went a perfect 5-0 on the day and the
women's team 3-2.
Classmates Josh Olsen, Craig Brown, Jeff Brannigan and Ryan
Williams finished one through four while junior Colin Eustis,
freshman Mark Leininger and junior Jeremy Schied took spots five
through seven. Olsen took the victory in 15:42.52 as the pack of
Eagles all finished within nine seconds of one another.
Junior Conor Sullivan placed ninth in the men's race while
freshman Alex Lyons took 10th, rounding out the men's
team's top finishers.
Rinehardt earned her first victory of the year on the women's
side in a time of 18:22.80. Senior Greta Wicklund took fifth place
in 19:07.00 as classmate Rachel Forcino placed 14th in
19:28.64.
The Eagles men finished the day with a perfect 5-0 record in the
dual competition, besting Patriot League foe Navy, 4-1, George
Washington, 3-2, Mount St. Mary's, 1-4, UMBC, 1-4 and Saint Francis
(Pa.), 1-4. The women's team earned a 3-2 record behind Navy which
won the competition with a 5-0 record and UMBC which finished third
with a 4-1 mark. George Washington placed fourth, 2-3, Mount St.
Mary's fifth, 1-4, and Saint Francis (Pa.) sixth, 0-5.
