WASHINGTON – Freshman
Shealyn Brochu earned her first Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors after placing sixth in the 328-person women's brown race at the Paul Short Run on Friday (Oct. 3), finishing as the top freshman.
Brochu improved upon her personal best in the 6k, running 21:09.5 to lead the Eagles to a ninth place finish out of 39 teams in the brown race. This is the women's highest finish at the Paul Short Run in more than a decade.
This comes after Brochu earned a
Patriot League honorable mention for her performance at Penn State's Spiked Shoe Invitational (Sep. 12). She finished her 6k debut in 21:23.2 to place 15th overall among nationally ranked competitors, running the third-fastest 6k time in program history.
Brochu has led the women's team in every meet this season, opening in a 13:53.6 4k at the Richmond Spider Alumni Open (Aug. 30) to finish in 10th place.
