MANHEIM, Pa. - For the third straight year, American University wrestling's
Kizhan Clarke has been named an NWCA Scholar All-American. Earning his first Scholar All-American honor is
Tim Fitzpatrick after a very short but impressive season.
The Scholar-All-American awards went to 191 individuals overall, representing 59 institutions.
Â
Clarke, a redshirt senior, graduated with a bachelor's degree in justice & law in 2020 and is currently working toward a Juris Doctor degree from American University's Washington College of Law. He was unable to compete for AU in 2020-21 due to COVID protocols, but has found plenty of success in non-collegiate competitions. He was an All-American Honorable Mention in 2020 and finished the season with 36 wins to rank third all-time at AU for wins in a single season.
Fitzpatrick, a redshirt sophomore and computer science major, earned an automatic qualification to his first NCAA Championships in 2020 by taking a career-best third-place finish at the EIWA Championships, the program's only scheduled meet in a COVID-shortened season. He then represented AU at the NCAA Championships which were held for the first time since 2019.
"It's my honor on behalf of the NWCA and our Board of Directors to recognize this outstanding list of team and individual award winners," said NWCA Executive Director Mike Moyer. "These athletes had to navigate a season full of unknowns and the fact they were able to continue to excel in the classroom is a testament to the attack mentality that wrestlers bring to every aspect of their lives."
