WASHINGTON –– After three road games, American University field hockey is back at Jacobs this weekend for two nonconference matches, facing off with Maine on Friday (Sep. 25) and Providence on Sunday (Sep. 27).

Scouting the Eagles

• The Eagles are on a five-game bounce after dropping their first three games, improving to 5-3, including a 1-0 start to Patriot League conference play. American outscored opponents 7-0 on the road this weekend, narrowly defeating Bucknell, 1-0, in the final moments and blanking Lock Haven, 6-0.
• Against Bucknell it was a battle, with AU having the better of the possession, penalty corners, shots, and shots on target, but Bucknell's defense and goalkeeper Sarah Althouse weren't letting anything get by, until Althouse made a save and the rebound was corralled by DuVarney to send into the cage for the win.
• Against Lock Haven, the Eagles were dominant from start to finish, scoring once in the first, twice in the second, and three times in the third before closing out the fourth with their second clean sheet of the weekend.
• Two Eagles received Patriot League honors after their performances this weekend. Jill DuVarney is the PL Forward of the Week while Sophie Willemse is the Defender of the Week. DuVarney's Friday night goal against Bucknell, with 34 seconds remaining in regulation, was the difference maker in a narrowly decided contest and saw the Eagles go 1-0 in conference play. It was Willemse that set that play up.
• Willemse, on top of her performance offensively against Bucknell, also anchored a defense that made sure neither Bucknell, nor Lock Haven was able to convert across the weekend. The Bison didn't register a single shot on goal even with four corners and six shots, and Lock Haven only managed just one shot on frame the and the Eagles only gave up one penalty corner.
• Currently leading the team in goals and points is Willemse with 11 points on four goals and three assists. Most of Willemse's goals and assists have come from AU attacking penalty corners.
• Sam Kockx, Olivia Morraye, and Emilia Winkler each have nine points. Kockx has three goals and three assists, Morraye has four goals and one assist, and Winkler has seven assists and a goal. Jordan Reicher follows with four goals for eight points.
