Strong Showing for Track at Gallaudet Bison Classic

WASHINGTON (Gallaudet) –– On a sunny Saturday afternoon in The District, a small cohort of the American University track team took to the Thomas O. Berg track in NoMa to test themselves at the Gallaudet Bison Classic.
  • Starting off the day on a high note, the men's 4x100m relay team of Gregory Celariste, Alex Zenit, Jason Omari-Anim, and Emilio Hooper etched themselves in the AU record books with a third place finish of 42.71. The quartet is now third all-time for AU in the event.
  • In the men's 200m, freshman Zenit finished with a personal best of 22.96 while teammate Hooper came in at 23.21, which is a season best for the junior.
  • AU's sole competitor in the women's 200m was sophomore Lara Gin, who set a new personal best of 25.90, coming in eighth in the event.
  • The highest individual place finish of the day belonged to junior Ciera Thacker, who came in fifth in the 100m dash, her time of 12.37 just two hundredths of a second behind her personal best in the event. Thacker's personal best has her sitting at third all-time on the AU top-10 list.
  • In the women's 400m, senior Adeline DiPaolo hit a season best time of 1:04.92.
  • On the women's mid-distance side, freshman Emma Colavito finished seventh in the women's 1500m while classmate Georgina Chalow came in ninth in the 800m for two more top-10 event finishes on the day for the Eagles.

Coach's Corner
"We took a small group of athletes over to Gallaudet today and got good work in in preparation for the next three weeks of aggressive racing," said head coach Sean Graham after the meet.

"We came away with some nice PRs for the sprinters, and a good first go at the men's 4x100. The women's middle distance athletes shifted down to some shorter events to cap off a very good week of training with a race stimulus at the end.

"This should gear us up well for the Virginia Challenge this coming weekend and Penn Relays the weekend after that!"
