BETHLEHEM, Pa. –– After a school record-setting regular season performance as a freshman, and a campaign that put her name in the national spotlight, freshman forward
Charlotte Tuhy has been selected as a member of both the Third Team All-Patriot League and the Patriot League All-Rookie team, the conference announced Friday. As a freshman, this honor marks the first postseason awards of Tuhy' career.
The Patriot League major awards and all-League teams are voted on by Patriot League women's basketball head coaches, who could not vote for their student-athletes or themselves.
Tuhy, as a freshman, is the only Eagle to finish the regular season averaging a double-double, picking up 11.6 ppg and 11.2 rpg. Tuhy started in all of American's 29 regular season games this year. The forward finished second on the AU squad in scoring and 14th in the Patriot League. She led the league almost every week of the season in rebounding. Tuhy is third in the league in blocks (33) and finished the season averaging 32.6 minutes per game. Tuhy's .406 field goal percentage is second highest on the squad at the conclusion of the regular season.
Nationally, Tuhy is ranked 10 in NCAA Division I women's basketball in rebounds per game (11.2) and is 18th in double-doubles (14); she is the second highest-ranked freshman on both lists. Tuhy leads all freshmen and is fifth overall in defensive rebounds per game (9.0) in the NCAA.
Against the Boston Terriers (Feb. 28), Tuhy reached a new career-high of 23 points while her 21 rebounds set her up for a program-record setting day. Her 21 boards against BU brought her season total to 309 rebounds. As a result, Tuhy now holds the AU women's basketball program's single-season rebound record, having taken down the record set by Mary Klima of 304 during the 1997-98 season. At the conclusion of the regular season, she accumulated 324 total rebounds.
As a first year, Tuhy led American a team-leading 27 times in rebounding, including eight times and 16 times, respectively, in Patriot League play. A total of 18 times across her rookie year, Tuhy led the team in blocks, including accumulating five (5) in a single game at Colgate (Jan. 21), the most of any Eagle in a single game since Cecily Carl in 2016.
Tuhy and sophomore
Molly Driscoll tied, each leading the squad a team-leading 10 times in scoring, and each led nine times in steals. The duo also matched with a team-leading 17 games scoring in double digits, including 10 times each reaching the mark in league play. In 19 games, Tuhy accumulated 10+ rebounds and had four 20+ point games and two 20+ rebound games. The Madison, New Jersey Native received the PL Rookie of the Week honor four times over the course of the season.
American is the No. 9-seed in the Patriot League Tournament and will face off with the No.8-seed Boston University on Saturday, March 7 in Boston, Mass at 2 p.m.
