Women's Basketball to Play at Boston in First Round of PL Tournament

WASHINGTON –– American women's basketball enters the 2026 PL Women's Basketball Tournament as the No. 9 seed and will begin tournament play in the first round on Saturday, March 7 at 2 p.m. ET on ESPN+ from Case Gym. American will square off against No. 8 seed Boston University. The victor of Saturday's game will advance to the quarterfinals, hosted by No. 1 seed Navy on Monday evening in Annapolis.

Series History
  • The Eagles hold onto an 18-14 series lead over the Terriers. In Case Gym, the Terriers have the home court, 10-5, advantage over American, including the most recent matchup, one week prior, on Feb. 28 when the Terriers claimed the 79-76 overtime win.
  • In the first meeting between these two teams this season, back in January, the second period saw AU outscore Boston University 22-4. This dominant quarter propelled the Eagles to the 53-45 win, despite Boston outscoring them in the first period, and in the second half.
  • In the most recent matchup, in Boston, the Terriers were led in their overtime win by Adler with 33 points and 11 rebounds. Inés Monteagudo, who finished with nine points scored the three pointer to send the game to OT. Bella McLaughlin and Anastasiia Semenova added 10 and 12 more respectively.
  • Charlotte Tuhy led AU on both ends, finishing with a career-high 23 points to add to 21 rebounds.
  • Three more Eagles finished in double digits: Anna Rescifina with 14 points and 10 rebounds, Molly Driscoll with 13, and Madisyn Moore-Nicholson with 12.
  • The Terrier's Anete Adler was top of all players with 33 points. At the end of the game, AU led 16-10 in bench points and BU led 46-30 in points in the paint.
  • The Eagles outrebounded the home team 51-41.
Tipping Off
  • The Eagles closed out the regular season with a road win at Lehigh, taking down the Mountain Hawks 62-60 in a game that came down to the wire as time wound down in Stabler Arena.
  • Freshman Charlotte Tuhy once again led on both ends of the court for American with 22 points and 15 rebounds. She also picked up three steals and a block. The game saw Tuhy record her third 20-point game of the season.
  • Senior Laura Nogues picked up a season high 13 points along with five rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Classmate Anna Rescifina went perfect on the night, shooting 5-of-5 from the floor to pick up 11 points.
  • American outrebounded Lehigh 34-24 and shot 46.0 to Lehigh's 40.4 percent.
  • The Eagles led 34-30 in points in the paint and 20-16 in bench points; however, the Mountain Hawks were able to pick up 23 points alone from AU's 19 turnovers.
  • Tuhy now holds the school record for rebounds in a single season, an accolade she picked up against Boston on Feb. 28, She's now accumulated 324 rebounds, taking down the record set by Mary Klima of 304 during the 1997-98 season.
  • Tuhy leads the league in rebounding, and is second on the team in scoring, averaging a double-double with 11.2 rpg and 11.2 ppg. Tuhy is 10th nationally in the NCAA in rebounds per game, and the second-highest freshman on the list. She's fifth in the nation in defensive rebounds per game and 18th nationally with 14 double-doubles.
  • Senior Rescifina has had two solid performances back-to-back including grabbing her first double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds against Boston in Case Gym and then picking up 11 more points against Lehigh on perfect shooting.
  • Two Eagles besides Tuhy are averaging double-digits this season. The sophomore duo of Molly Driscoll and Madisyn Moore-Nicholson are averaging 12.0 and 10.3 ppg, respectively. Driscoll leads the team in ppg, good enough for, 13th in the league in scoring, followed by Tuhy in 14th.
  • Moore-Nicholson has led the team in scoring eight times this season and has picked up two 20+ point games and a double-double along the way. Driscoll has the highest three-point field goal percentage on the squad, shooting .362 percent from beyond the arc and has made 46 treys this season.
  • The Eagles are seventh in the league in offense and 10th in defense, scoring an average of 55.6 ppg and allowing an average of 66.2 ppg. Boston is ahead of American, sixth in the league in scoring with an average of 58.3 ppg, and the Terriers are sixth in defense, allowing an average of 61.2 ppg. BU has a -2.9 point scoring margin, but the Eagles are at an -10.8 scoring deficit.
  • American is ninth in the Patriot League in field goal percentage (.363) and opponent field goal percentage (.428). In contrast, BU is leading the league from the field, averaging .436 and are ranked fifth in the league in limiting opponent field goal percentage (.388).
  • AU ranks fourth in the league in rebounding with its 34.2 combined rebounding average.
Scouting the Terriers
  • Most recently, the Terriers overcame a 10-point, first-quarter deficit and led by as many as 12 points in the fourth quarter but went scoreless for nearly seven minutes as the Crusaders of Holy Cross outscored the Terriers 25-10 in the final frame to snipe the 64-58 victory.
  • Senior Bella McLaughlin posted a team-high 17 points and picked up five assists and three rebounds. Classmate Inés Monteagudo Pardo nailed four three-pointers for 12 points while senior Anete Adler collected 10 points.
  • Boston outshot Holy Cross, 41.5 percent to HC's 36.8 percent; the Terriers also outshot the visitors from distance, going 42.1 percent from three-point range to the Crusaders' 28.6 percent.
  • Holy Cross had the 37-30 edge in rebounding and turned 11 offensive rebounds in to 20 second-chance points. The Terriers sported a 26-22 advantage in paint points.
  • Senior forward Anete Adler is sixth in the league in scoring, averaging 15.3 ppg this season; she carries the second-highest field goal percentage in the league (.494) and is ninth in the league in rebounding (6.2 rpg). She also leads the league in blocked shots (34).
  • Anastasiia Semenova, another senior, holds the Terriers' second-highest ppg average (9.0 ppg) and is second highest on the squad and 11th in the league in rebounding (5.4 rpg).
  • As a team, the Terriers are second in the league in three-point field goal percentage (.342) and are sixth in the league with 172 made three-pointers on the season. American is in fifth place with 176 made treys.
  • The Terriers are sixth in the league in combined team rebounds with 33.3 per game and limit opponents to an average of 32.8 rpg.
