Lacrosse Opens Season at Home vs. Georgetown on Friday

WASHINGTON - The American University lacrosse team begins its 2026 slate on home turf, as the Eagles are set to host crosstown rival Georgetown on Friday afternoon.

  • AU is 0-7 all-time against the Hoyas dating back to 1992, falling to local foe 12-5 last year at Cooper Field. 
  • Kellie Linehan led the effort for the Eagles, scoring two goals, picking up two draw controls, and causing a turnover. 
What to Know About American
  • American enters the 2026 season with a roster of eight seniors, seven juniors, 11 sophomores, and seven freshmen. 
  • AU's top returners on the offensive side are seniors Reagan Murdoch and Kellie Linehan. Murdoch earned a spot on the All-Patriot League Second Team in 2025, racking up 45 points on 38 goals and seven assists. After her first 13 goals this season, Murdoch will have 100 to her name. 
  • Linehan returns as a dangerous addition to the team's attacking unit, having been a midfielder the last three years. The sharp-shooting senior transitions closer to goal after scoring 29 times last season on a .547 shooting percentage, in addition along with nine assists. 
  • American's defensive unit is led by juniors Deirdre Brown and Sammie Buonaccorsi. The duo was in the top five on the team in caused turnovers and ground balls, with Brown adding 11 draw controls.
  • Brown and Buonaccorsi helped AU cause over nine turnovers per game in 2025, and they'll look to wreak more havoc while protecting their goal this year.
  • Brooke Hill will stand between the posts for the Eagles this year, joining the program as a sophomore transfer from USF. Hill is filling big shoes as she replaces  Caleigh Forti, who finished third in the NCAA in saves with 177 in 2025. 
  • Lindsay Teeters enters her sixth season at the helm of AU lacrosse. Throughout her time in D.C., she's tied the program's single-season wins record, coached ten All-Patriot League selections, and helped three players break into AU's all-time top five for career points.
What to Know About Georgetown
  • The Hoyas are coming off a 9-8 showing in 2025, going 4-2 in the BIG EAST and falling to Denver in the conference semifinals. Returning a class of nine seniors and some of their most productive players from last season, they were picked to finish fourth in the BIG EAST preseason poll. 
  • Defender Kendall Steer, attacker Gracie Driggs, and attacker Sophia Loschert headline Georgetown's returners. Driggs is back as Georgetown's leading goal scorer from a year ago, putting in 51 to earn a First Team All-BIG EAST selection.  
  • Loschert was the BIG EAST Freshman of the Year in 2025, recording 40 points on 34 goals and six assists. 
  • Steer is Georgetown's defensive leader, starting all 17 games last season and leading the team with 30 ground balls.  
  • The Hoyas put 24.12 shots on goal per game last year, the most in the BIG EAST. 
  • Caitlyn Phipps leads Georgetown in her second season at the helm.
