WASHINGTON - Andrea "Ang" McTaggart has been promoted to Associate Head Coach of American University lacrosse, announced by head coach
Lindsay Teeters today. McTaggart finished her fourth season with the program in 2026, primarily responsible for AU's defense since 2023.
"Ang has been an integral part of our success over the past several years, particularly on the defensive end," said Teeters. "She has dedicated herself to developing each of our defenders while also helping our midfielders become more effective in our defensive system. Her impact extends far beyond what happens on the field. She has earned the trust of our team, keeps us organized, and handles countless responsibilities behind the scenes that often go unnoticed. This promotion is well deserved, and I couldn't be happier to see her recognized with this new title."
McTaggart has led one of the Patriot League's most disruptive defensive units over the last two seasons. The 2026 campaign saw the Eagles finish 13th in the country in caused turnovers per game with 11.25, and McTaggart guided multiple players to career-best seasons. Sophomore
Izzy Masengarb had a breakout year, finishing fourth in program single-season history with 33 caused turnovers, adding 25 ground balls with 18 draw controls. Samantha Buonnacorsi and
Deirdre Brown both finished in the top 10 in the conference in total caused turnovers, with Buonaccorsi leading the team in ground balls with 26. Both juniors also added two assists.
"I am very thankful for Lindsay for the opportunity to be elevated to Associate Head Coach," said McTaggart. "Over the past few seasons, this program has profoundly shaped me, not just as a coach, but as a leader and person. I am incredibly grateful for the trust, mentorship, and opportunities I've received here at American University and through Lindsay!"
McTaggart developed several standout defenders from the class of 2025 as well.
Jenna Walls emerged as one of the team's top performers after appearing in just four games as a freshman in 2022, going on to lead the Eagles in caused turnovers in both 2024 and 2025. Fellow 2025 graduates
Darby Sherrod and
Juliet Kuenzler also flourished under McTaggart's guidance, each posting career highs in ground balls and caused turnovers during their final season.
Overall, McTaggart has helped Teeters produce 10 All-Patriot League selections over five seasons, including some of the best players in program history. Under her guidance,
Maddy Spratt (25') finished her career second on the program's all-time assists list with 74, and 2026 graduate
Reagan Murdoch finished fourth in goals with 128.
The former Terrapin came to AU after a four-year career at the University of Maryland, where she was a part of two NCAA Championship-winning teams in 2017 and 2019.Â
