Lacrosse Bolsters Attack With Two Transfers

WASHINGTON - American University lacrosse has signed transfers Anna Checkosky and Anna Bednarz, adding depth and experience to AU's 2027 roster. Checkosky is a Fairfax, Virginia native returning to the DMV area after a breakout season with High Point, and Bednarz comes to D.C. following two quality seasons at Queens University of Charlotte.

"We're thrilled to welcome Anna and Anna to our program," said head coach Lindsay Teeters. "After graduating our top two scorers, we knew it was essential to add proven finishers who could make an immediate impact and help elevate our offense. Beyond their individual talents, we believe they'll complement each other extremely well and fit seamlessly with our returning players."

Checkosky is coming off a strong sophomore year, proving to be a key contributor to the Panthers' second straight 7-1 showing in the Big South and a run to the conference championship game. She played in all 18 games and made 10 starts, racking up 21 points on 13 goals and eight assists. Checkosky recorded a point in all but one of her team's victories, including a five-point performance against Wofford.

The local attacker graduated from Robinson High Secondary School, where she was a three-time All-State selection and two-time region champion.

Bednarz totaled 26 points in her two seasons with Queens, playing in 30 games as a mainstay in the Royals' rotation. She scored nine goals and dished out four assists in 2026.
