Women’s Basketball Remains on the Road, Faces Bucknell Wednesday

WASHINGTON –– American women's basketball takes on second road test in two games, as the Eagles make the trip to Lewisburg, Pa. on Wednesday to take on Bucknell for the 59th meeting between the two programs. The Eagles look to earn a win over the Bison for the first time since January 2024 at 6 p.m. ET from Sojka Pavilion, airing on ESPN+.

Series History
  • Going back to 1983, the Eagles and the Bison have taken the court 28 times against each other, with Bucknell claiming the narrow 30-28 series lead over American.
  • The Eagles are on a four-game loss streak against the Bison, three of those being away contests in Lewisburg. Overall, on the road, American is at a deficit, down 18-12 in Sojka Pavilion.
  • The final game of the Eagles' 2024-25 regular season was at home against the Bison, American falling 77-46 to the visitors in Bender. This is the first meeting between these two teams this season.
Tipping Off
  • The Eagles are fresh off their second conference road win of the season, having claimed a 70-60 victory over Lafayette on Saturday in Easton. As a squad, American shot 42.2 percent from the field and outrebounded the Leopards 50-31, tying up the game at 58-all with 3:49 to play before pulling away to score 12 more points while limiting Lafayette to just two more points gained.
  • Bench points, one of the sources of AU's struggles this season, saw the Eagles tally up 32 points from nonstarters. Leading LAF with its 14. Most of these points came from Grace Koepke and Laura Nogues.
  • Another upgraded stat was AU's points in the paint; the team scored 16 against Loyola on Wednesday and improved to 36. Koepke was instrumental in scoring down low, as well.
  • It was Molly Driscoll who led American in scoring against the Leopards. After finishing the first half in double-digits scoring, the sophomore guard finished with 22 points on 7-of-14 shooting. On the season, Driscoll tops American in scoring, with her 13.1 ppg average; she's 10th in the Patriot League in scoring.
  • Driscoll, for the third time this season, had five made threes in a single game, a fourth time hitting the mark in her career. She went 5-of-9 from beyond the arc, her most efficient from long-range. She's sixth in the league in three point field goals per game and is fifth in the league in made threes this season: 39.
  • Junior forward Grace Koepke saw season-highs in points (19) and rebounds (seven) and picked up a career-high three assists. She also added two blocks. Her 19 points were two shy of her career high; she was on 9-of-14 shooting. Koepke's 25 minutes on the court were a season high.
  • Laura Nogues with her season-high nine points on 4-of-6 shooting was another offensive hot spot for AU. Nogues picked up five assists, and two steals. The senior show 4-of-6 for 66.7 percent efficiency on the afternoon.
  • Charlotte Tuhy led on the glass again, topping all players on both teams with 15 rebounds. She also tallied nine points. Tuhy, with her 231 rebounds on the season is now the sixth all-time single-season rebounder AU has ever seen. The freshman forward is first on the squad and in the Patriot League, and 11th the NCAA, in rebounding with her 11.0 rebounds per game. Tuhy also averages a double-double with her 11.2 ppg average this season. She's 15th in the league in scoring.
  • The Eagles have three players this season averaging double-digit scoring. Madisyn Moore-Nicholson is averaging 10.6 ppg and has seen three 20+ point games as a sophomore. She's led the team in scoring five times this season, including twice in the Patriot League
  • As a team, the Eagles are seventh in the PL in scoring offense, averaging 56.1, and eights in team defense, allowing opponents an average of 64.7 ppg for a margin deficit of -8.5 ppg. Bucknell's scoring deficit of -4.3 ppg is seventh in the league.
  • American has struggled all season long with bench scoring, having only outscored opponents from the bench in seven games this year, and only notching two wins from those seven, including the Eagles' most recent game against Lafayette.
  • The Eagles are ninth in the league in field goal percentage (.361), behind Bucknell in eighth (.392). The squad is fifth in made threes on the season (136), but eighth in 3-point field goal percentage (.274) and first in the league in limiting opponents in three pointers, allowing adversarial teams to shoot only .281 percent from distance.
Scouting the Bison
  • Bucknell are currently 3-7 in the league but coming into the contest against American hot off their first road-win of the Patriot League season, topping Boston University 62-51 on Saturday. The Bison outscored the Terriers in every quarter of the game and took care of the ball, while forcing Boston to make costly turnovers which proved to be a difference maker in the contest.
  • Bucknell's defensive pressure forced Boston to commit 18 turnovers in comparison to the Bison's four. In tandem with the turnovers, the Bison recorded 12 steals to the Terriers two and had 19 points off turnovers to their five.
  • The Bison saw 23 points off the bench and led the game for over 37 minutes of competition. Bucknell saw one of its best shooting days of the season as it shot 47.3 percent from the field, and the team shot well from distance, 36 percent shooting from three.
  • Tuana Coskun led the Bison in scoring with 26 points on 11-of-20 shooting from the field and 3-of-7 shooting from three. Coskun is ninth in the Patriot League in scoring average, tallying 13.5 ppg, and is seventh in field goal percentage (.421). From beyond the arc, Coskun is shooting 43.8 percent and has 31 made threes on the season.
  • Desirae Ashton earned a career-high against Boston with 14 points on a 6-of-9 shooting. Ashton led the team in steals with three, and Reese Zemitis had two blocks on the afternoon. Ella Kreuzer matched her career-high in made threes with three in the game.
  • Anna Kunzwiler led the team in rebounds with five and Ella Kreuzer led in assists with four. Kreuzer had nine points against the Terriers.
  • This season the Bison are led in scoring by Coskun with her 13.4 ppg and Elana Weisman who averages 10.4 ppg. On the glass, Kunzwiler (4.1 rpg), Weisman (4.0 rpg), and Isabella Casey (4.0 rpg) lead for the Bison.
  • As a team, Bucknell are sixth in the league in 3-point field goal percentage (.286), and third in opponent 3-point field goal percentage, holding opponents equal, also at .28.6 percent.
  • The Bucknell defense is currently second in the Patriot League, allowing opponents to average 58.1 ppg this season. Meanwhile, the offense is the least efficient, currently, in the league, averaging 53.9 ppg. The deficit is less than American's though, down -4.3 in the scoring margin.
