Series History
- In a series that has been ongoing since 1980, American has the lead in the series, up 28-11, over Loyola Md. In Bender Arena, the Eagles hold a 14-3 lead over the Greyhounds.
- Four of the Eagles' 11 losses to LMD come from the past two season, including the Eagles' first game against the Baltimore based team this season. Prior to that, American was on an eight-game win streak over the Greyhounds.
- In Reitz Arena in Baltimore, a month prior (Dec. 31, 2025), the Greyhounds claimed a conference-opening win over the Eagles, taking the 68-59 victory.
- Three Eagles finished in double digits: Madisyn Moore-Nicholson (21), Charlotte Tuhy (16), and Molly Driscoll (14). Moore Nicholson went a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line. The Eagles struggled on the glass, but Lexi Salazar topped the Eagles in rebounding, capping out at six boards.
- The Eagles struggled in the paint, scoring just 14 to Loyola's 44 down low. They also still struggled to get bench points, with Loyola taking 17 from their reserves while American took just one.
- It was Lex Therien who led for the Greyhounds with 21 points on near perfect 10-of-11 shooting; she picked up nine rebounds, too. Koi Sims led all players with 10 rebounds. Four Greyhounds finished with 10+ points.
- Currently, American is 3-5 in the Patriot League while Loyola Md. is an even 4-4 in league play.
Tipping Off
- The Eagles will be looking to defend Bender and get back to winning ways after falling 70-58 to Holy Cross over the weekend. Despite the team taking its first lead of the game, up 55-52, with six minutes to play, Holy Cross went on a 12-0 run late in the fourth quarter to claim the win over the Eagles.
- Charlotte Tuhy with her 10th double-double of the season, led American on both ends of the boards, finishing the afternoon with 16 points and 11 rebounds. She led all players on the court in rebounding. She went 5-of-7 overall and a perfect 3-of-3 from three point range.
- Madisyn Moore-Nicholson was the only other Eagle in double digits with her 10 points, going 6-of-8 from the free throw line. Junior guard Lexi Salazar finished with nine points, also sinking in a trio of triples on the outing.
- A big Holy Cross advantage over the Eagles came from down low, leading the game with 36 points in the paint over AU's 16. They also led 20-14 in points off turnovers, with the Eagles surrendering the ball 17 times to the Crusaders' 12 turnovers.
- American led Holy Cross in bench scoring with 18-15 points coming from reserves, with bench impact improving as the season continues on.
- Tuhy, fresh off two double-double outings in a row, was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week for the third time this season and second consecutive week. The 6'1 forward is maintaining a double-double on the season with 11.5 ppg and 10.8 rpg; she leads the Eagles in rebounding and is second in scoring. Offensively, Tuhy leads the Eagles in field goal percentage, shooting 42.2 percent, and from three-point range, going 35.5 percent from deep.
- Tuhy leads the Patriot League and across the NCAA, Tuhy is currently ranked 12th in rebounding. She's the only Patriot League player averaging double-digit rebounds.
- Leading the Eagles in scoring this season is sophomore Molly Driscoll, the guard is averaging 12.3 ppg and has three 20+ point games on her stat sheet for the season, most recently dropping 20 points against Army (Jan. 17, 2026) in Bender. In two of those prolific scoring games, Driscoll hit five made three pointers. She has a team-leading 30 threes this year.
- Moore-Nicholson has been another standout for the Eagles this season, also notching three 20+ point games. The sophomore guard averages 10.9 ppg and has five times led the Eagles offensively this season.
- American, despite having performed well off the bench against Holy Cross, still struggle in the stat this year, only outscoring the opponent in the stat five times this season and only once has it secured them a win.
- As a team, American is averaging 55.6 points per game this season, while allowing opponents an average of 65.0 ppg. After prolific 11-of-22 shooting from three point range against the Mids of Navy (Jan. 14), the Eagles are only shooting 27.2 percent from three point range as a team. The Eagles are ninth in the Patriot League in both team field goal percentage (.359) and in opponent field goal percentage (.426).
Scouting the Greyhounds
- Coming into Bender, the Greyhounds will have something to prove after scoring just 10 points in the opening half of their game against Bucknell on Saturday (Jan. 24). Loyola hit just five points each in the first and second quarter but improved to 12 points in the third and a respectable 23 points in the final frame.
- Bucknell took the win from Loyola in Lewisburg, Pa., the Bison going wire-to-wire, for a 54-45 win on Saturday.
- Cristina Garcia finished the game with a team-high nine points off the bench, while Lex Therien and Olivia Shaughnessy had eight and seven points respectively. Therien also led the team with six rebounds on the day. Every player scored for Loyola, as they tallied 27 bench points on the afternoon.
- The Greyhounds shot just 26.8 percent as a team against the Bison.
- Loyola currently sits at eighth in the League in offense (55.4 ppg), but sits middle-of-the-road, fifth in defense, allowing opponents an average of 61.3 points against. LMD is sixth in both team field goal percentage, .401–despite the rough showing against the Bison–and in opponent field goal percentage (.400).
- As a group, the Greyhounds are led offensively by Therien who holds the highest field goal percentage in the league, 52.7 percent. The graduate student is third in the league in scoring, averaging 16.6 ppg. She has one of the highest free-throw percentages in the league, shooting 75 percent from the charity stripe. Therien has scored 20 or more points in eight games this season for the Greyhounds.
- Therien's also third in the league in rebounding with an 8.7 board per game average while teammate Koi Sims is close behind at sixth in the league, averaging 8.1 rpg.
- Sims is second on the team in both rebounding (8.1 rpg) and in scoring, averaging 9.0 ppg. She has a team-leading 12 blocks this season and has matched her career-high of 18 twice this season, most recently against Lehigh (Jan. 21) in the overtime contest in Baltimore. Sims is followed closely offensively by Kimmie Hicks with her 8.9 ppg average.
