Women’s Basketball Returns to Bender, Hosts Army for Alumni Day Saturday

WASHINGTON – After two games on the road, American women's basketball is back at Bender Arena to host Army West Point on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles look to get back into the win column as tip against the Black Knights is set for 1 p.m. ET on ESPN+. The Eagles plan to welcome back visiting alumni with a halftime celebration.

Series History
  • The Eagles and the Black Knights have faced off 52 times in their history; American boasts a narrow 28-24 victory margin over Army, including a 16-10 lead in Bender Arena.
  • Between 2018-22, AU had won nine straight against AWP before the luck swapped. Since the second meeting of the teams in 2022, American has lost all but one of the proceeding seven games, taking a victory on the road in West Point in 2024. As it stands now, the Black Knights have won three in a row over the Eagles.
  • The Eagles suffered two, 20+ point defeats at the hands of the Black Knights in 2025, being swept away by AWP. In West Point (Feb. 1, 2025), American fell 84-60, and in Washington (Feb. 19, 2025), the scoreline was 63-43.
  • In the most recent game in Bender, Grace Koepke led the Eagles with a 21-point career-high performance on 9-of-13 shooting. Laura Nogues picked up 11 points in that game as well. West Point was led by Reese Ericson with 13 points and Kya Smith with a double-double 1o points and 14 rebounds.
Tipping Off
  • The Eagles, still unable to find a win on the road this season, started the Patriot League 2-1 before falling to Holy Cross and most recently, Navy, on the road. falling 86-68 from Alumni Hall on Wednesday evening.
  • American shot 50 percent from three against Navy, sinking 11 total long-range jumpers against the Mids. Overall, the Eagles and the Mids both shot over 40 percent from the floor, AU walking out with 42.1 percent on 58 attempts and USNA having shot 47.1 percent on 68 attempts.
  • Navy outscored American, 25-15, in points off turnovers and had a 25-17 points off the bench advantage. There was also a 38-18 points in the paint advantage for the Midshipmen over the Eagles. American, all season, has struggled with bench scoring and with scoring down low in the paint.
  • Claiming her eighth double-double of the season, Charlotte Tuhy led for American on both ends of the court with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore guard Molly Driscoll was the only other Eagle to score in double digits, tallying 13.
  • Tuhy is tied for first in the Patriot League in rebounding, averaging 10.4 rebounds per game to match Army's Kya Smith. Tuhy averages a double-double with her points per game average clocking in at 10.9. She currently sits at tied for 19th in the NCAA in rebounding. Against Colgate (Jan. 7), Tuhy tallied up 22 rebounds and 17 points and as a result, sits at second all-time at American for rebounds in a single game.
  • Driscoll, who against the Mids struggled to find an offensive rhythm, still walked away with 13 points. The guard went 5-for-6 from the free throw line and drilled two three pointers. She also led in steals (3) and in assists (6). Six assists in a single game is the most of any Eagle this season. Driscoll leads the team and is 11th in the Patriot League in scoring with a 12.9 ppg average. She's scored 26 three pointers on the season, ninth in the league in the stat.
  • Another start performer for American this season is sophomore Madisyn Moore-Nicholson. The guard is averaging 11.2 ppg and has seen two 20+ point games this season. Until the Navy game, Moore-Nicholson had been on an eight game run of scoring 10 or more in a game, starting with her 12 points scored against William & Mary (Dec. 7).  
  • As a team, the Eagles are averaging 56.1 points per game this season while allowing opponents an average of 66.3 ppg. Despite their efficiency from three point range against Navy, the Eagles are only shooting 27.9 percent from three on the season.
Scouting the Black Knights
  • After a league-opening loss to Lehigh to end 2025, Army has won its most recent run of four games to carry a 4-1 Patriot League record. The Black Knights have topped Colgate, Loyola Maryland, Boston University, and most recently, took down Holy Cross, 61-46, at home in West Point.
  • The Black Knights took a seven point, 27-20, lead into halftime before dropping 23 points in the third quarter while the Crusaders tallied 14. This gave Army the cushion to cruise through the final period to the fifteen-point victory.
  • Kya Smith finished the night with a game-high 18 points on 7-12 shooting, while also grabbing seven rebounds and pickup up a career-high five steals for the Black Knights. The junior is sixth in the Patriot League in scoring, averaging 15.1 ppg and is tied with AU's Tuhy for first in rebounding at an average of 10.4 rebounds per game.
  • Smith carried the highest field goal percentage in the league, shooting 58.9 percent. She is also second in the league in pickpocketing, with 29 steals on the season.
  • The only other scorer in double figures for Army was Reardon, who scored a career-high 13 points on 5-12 shooting. The freshman from Chicago has become the team's most consistent bench scorer this season and has 10-plus points in six of her last eight games. Reardon also grabbed seven boards while playing a career-high 26 minutes.
  • The Black Knights' Reese Ericson leads the league in made three pointers this season, 47 total for an average of 2.9 per game, and is shooting 40.9 percent from three point range. Teammate Camryn Tade is shooting 40.5 percent but has only dropped 17 threes on the season.
  • Army has three players in the top-10 assist category for the League: Brooke Wilson, Tade, and Ericson. The trio are fifth, eighth, and ninth in the league in assists this season, each averaging 3.1 or more per game. Tade is second in the league in assist/turnover ratio (2.2), taking care of the rock while dishing out dimes.
  • Behind Navy, averaging 72.1 ppg, Army has the second-highest scoring offense in the league averaging 68.5 ppg. The Black Knights also have the most efficient defense in the PL, allowing just 57.4 ppg from opponents for the highest win margin of 11.1 on the season.
  • From the floor, Army's field goal percentage is the PL's highest this season at 43.6 percent, and the second highest from three point range, 33.7 percent, while being fourth in the league in made threes, averaging 7.5 per game.
