Women's Soccer Adds Alli Lipsher as an Assistant Coach

WASHINGTON - The coaching staff for Marsha Harper of American University women's soccer is complete with the addition of Alli Lipsher, a goalkeepers coach who played professionally after a career at Duke. Following her soccer career, Lipsher has grown within the coaching ranks at both the professional and collegiate levels.

"I am thrilled to finally lock in the last piece to our program's puzzle," said Harper. "I am beyond excited to be able to officially announce the addition of Alli Lipsher to our coaching staff. Alli's is an incredible coach, but an even better person. In the short amount of time that I have known her, her ability to inspire and elevate everyone around her is both seen and felt. Both her playing and coaching background speak for themselves. She is a winner that has coached and played among the best in the world. Her work, vision, passion, and dedication to be the best perfectly align with the culture that we are building and the history that we are chasing here at American University. We are blessed to have her fly into the Nest!"

Lipsher was an assistant coach for the Kansas City Current in the NWSL from 2021-22, an assistant coach at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles for two seasons from 2022-24, and also spent two seasons as the Director of Goalkeeping for the University of Minnesota women's soccer team. She served stints as an assistant coach and goalkeeper coach at Trinity College, Tufts, East Carolina, and Arizona. While in California, Lipsher also worked as the Director of Goalkeeping for the Los Angeles Bulls Soccer Club.

Currently, Lipsher is a scout for US Soccer working to identify future prospects for the US Youth National Teams. Also, she was also an Assistant Coach for the Kansas City Current in the NWSL (2021-2022).

"I'm incredibly excited to join the coaching staff at American University," said Lipsher. "It's an honor to work alongside such a dedicated group of coaches and to help lead a talented group of players who are hungry to make a big impact in the Patriot League. I can't wait to get started and contribute to the winning culture being built here."

Lipsher was a standout player at Duke before entering the professional ranks in Women's Professional Soccer (WPS). Known as one of the top goalkeepers in the nation during her time with the Blue Devils, Lipsher totaled 33 career shutouts and a goals against average of 0.87, both of which ranked second in program history.

Following a stellar career at Duke, she led Ajax America to the 2008 WPSL National Championship where she was named to the WPSL All-Tournament Team. Lipsher also played professionally for the New Castle Jets (2010-11) and Sydney FC (2011-12) of the Australia Women's League. She spent three years on soccer's biggest stage playing for the Boston Breakers (2009-10) and Atlanta Beat (2011) in the WPS. While with the Breakers, she played in 11 games, starting in 10 and led all goalkeepers in minutes played with 928 allowing six goals in 11 games and recorded a league fourth-best five shutouts. In Atlanta, Lipsher started seven games, collected 47 saves and had one shutout. In 2012 she secured a roster spot in the Women's Professional Soccer League (WPSL) Elite with the Western New York (WNY) Flash playing alongside US National Team members Megan Klinginberg and Lori Lindsey, where they captured the 2012 league title.

Lipsher is a 2008 graduate of Duke with a degree in history and earned her master's degree in public policy from Trinity College in 2017.
