WASHINGTON – The American women's basketball program and head coach
Kelly Killion have announced the additions of
Paige Corkins and
Niya Beverley as assistant coaches for the Eagles. Corkins joins American after two successful seasons with Holy Cross and will also serve as the team's recruiting coordinator while Beverly has been elevated to assistant coach after a season with the Eagles as their director of basketball operations.
"Paige will bring a ton of energy to our program," said Killion. "Her bright personality and ability to connect with many people will be an incredible asset to build meaningful relationships in our program and the AU Community. I am excited for Paige to take this next step in her career and lead our recruiting efforts. She is organized, relentless, passionate, and charismatic and those qualities are a recipe for success in recruiting. I am excited to welcome Paige to American."
While with the Crusaders, Corkins worked with the forwards and helped guide them to the 2024 Patriot League Tournament Championship and the 2023-24 Patriot League Regular Season Championship. She was a Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) 2024 Thirty Under 30 honoree.
Before her stint at Holy Cross, Corkins was at Fordham as a video analyst and director of player development. She developed and carried out individual workout plans, return to play injury plans, produced scouting reports, assisted in developing game strategy, designing of effective and efficient training and practices for both the team and individual student athletes as well as coordinated all film and video responsibilities for the program.
Before Fordham, Corkins was an assistant coach at her alma mater, Concordia for three years working with the post players and assisting with academic support, coordinating team activities and scouting. A four-year letter winner for the Clippers, the one-time team captain finished her career ranked 15th in program history in offensive rebounds and was top 20 in both rebounds and defensive rebounds.
"I am incredibly excited to join AU and create a culture we will be proud of for years to come," said Corkins. "We have a fantastic opportunity to achieve great things here, and I can't wait to be a part of it. The sky truly is the limit for us! Coach Killion is one of the best in the business, a rockstar on and off the court and has had much success in her career. You can feel her passion as soon as you enter the room. Working under her leadership was a no-brainer for me."
Beverley joined the Eagles' women's basketball staff as the program's Director of Basketball Operations in October 2024 before being elevated to assistant coach by Killion upon her arrival. Beverley came to the Eagles from the University of Connecticut where she most recently served as a graduate assistant for the women's basketball team.
"I am excited to elevate Niya to the assistant coach position. She is a relationship builder with a tremendous pulse on the needs of our players," said Killion on Beverley. "From the moment I stepped on campus, it was evident that she has made an invaluable impact to the AU community and our program. Niya is well respected in the DMV community due to her strong pedigree as a player and more importantly, as a person. Her strong ties to the DMV are something we plan to leverage in our recruiting and community relations. Niya is a rising star in our business, and I look forward to watching her blossom as a leader."
During her graduate assistantship with the 11-time National Championship program, Beverley garnered the elite experience of working with and learning from legendary Hall of Fame Coach, Geno Auriemma. At UConn, Beverley was responsible for assisting with all aspects of the program including on-court workouts, scouting reports, overseeing student managers, and aiding in all recruiting efforts. In her two years with the Huskies, Beverley was a part of a Final Four run in 2023-24 and a Sweet Sixteen run in 2022-23.
Prior to her time in Storrs, Beverley had an outstanding playing career at both Penn State University and University of Wisconsin. During her playing career, Beverley led the Big Ten and was second in the country in assist-to-turnover ratio while also earning Academic All-Big Ten honors.
"I am honored to be returning to the American women's basketball program as an Assistant Coach," said Beverley on her promotion. "Special thanks to Coach Killion for this amazing opportunity, I am grateful to be apart of the amazing culture she is building here at AU. I'm excited to help our student-athletes grow both on and off the court, and to work alongside a staff dedicated to building a championship culture."
