Series History
- The series between the Eagles and the Greyhounds has been ongoing since 1980. American has the lead in the series, up 28-10, over Loyola Md. The Eagles, on the road in Reitz Arena, have a 12-6 lead in the series.
- Last season the Greyhounds swept the series, winning with two substantial wins, 77-38 (1/13/25) and 68-39 (2/15/25).
- Three of the Eagles' 10 losses to LMD come from the past two season. Prior to that, American was on an eight-game win streak over the Greyhounds.
Tipping Off
- To close out nonconference play, the Eagles battled to a, 65-61, victory over the Retrievers of UMBC prior to the holiday break (Dec. 21). In that win, American saw two players, sophomore guard Madisyn Moore-Nicholson, and freshman forward Charlotte Tuhy, drop 20 points apiece to carry AU to the win.
- Moore-Nicholson matched her career high during the outing when she topped out at 20 points. She was all over the floor, not just scoring, but collecting a team-high four assists as well as four rebounds and two steals.
- Tuhy having a prolific first collegiate season, found herself back in the spotlight. Two boards shy of her seventh double-double, with 20 points and eight rebounds, Tuhy also earned a new career high when she topped her previous career-high of 13 points.
- For the first time all season, the Eagles led in points in the paint 36-34. AU still struggled with scoring bench scoring, though, only accruing two to UMBC's 20. American also led in field goal percentage, shooting 53.3 percent to UMBC's 43.1 percent.
- The Eagles, as a group, shot well from distance, too. The squad had a 37.5 shot percentage from beyond the arc. They did allow UMBC to pick their pockets 12 times though; despite this, AU recorded 19 points off turnovers to UMBC's 12.
- American still struggles with bench scoring though with nonstarters scoring a combined four points in the previous two games, at George Washington and against UMBC. The Revolutionaries and the Retrievers combined for 66 bench points over AU.
- Molly Driscoll, AU's top-scorer this season, is ninth in the Patriot League with an average of 13.6 ppg. The sophomore guard has had two 20+ point games this year, scoring 29 points on the road at La Salle (Nov. 22) and 24 points at VCU (Dec. 16). Driscoll is seventh in the PL with 20 made three point field goals on the season already; she's shooting 37.0 percent from distance.
- Tuhy leads the Eagles and the Patriot League in rebounding with an average of 10.4 boards per game. The freshman is averaging a double-double through nonconference play, with her 10.1 ppg. She's closely trailing Moore-Nicholson who holds an average of 10.2 ppg.
Scouting the Greyhounds
- The Greyhounds closed out nonconference play with three back-to-back wins. LMD topped Towson 64-63 in overtime, UMBC 60-57, and then Mogan State 65-58, to pick up momentum as conference play approaches. Most recently, the win over Morgan state (Dec. 21), was a double-digit comeback win when the Loyola went on a 15-2 run to claim the victory.
- The game against the Bears saw Koi Sims Sims led the charge with 18 points and 15 rebounds in the win. The 18 points tied a career-high, while Sims' six offensive rebounds tied a season-best. She finished the day 9-12 from the field, while also tallying two assists on the day. Through nonconference play, Sims is second on the team in rebounding, with an average of 7.9 boards per game.
- Three other Greyhounds scored in double digits against the Bears on the way to victory. Amandine Amorich dropped 12 points, going 4-for-7 from three point range, freshman Olivia Shaughnessy scores 12 with her 3-for-3 shooting and 5-for-6 free throws, and Cristina Garcia scored 11 on 3-for-5 shooting while going 5-for-6 from the free throw line.
- Lex Therien, back in action this season after appearing in just three games last season due to injury, has picked right back up where she was. The graduate student is third in the Patriot League in scoring and rebounding, averaging 16.2 points per game and 8.5 rebounds per game for the Greyhounds. The post player has seen five games with 20+ points so far this season and in nine of the Greyhounds' 11 games, she has scored in double digits.
- Therien, carrying a field goal percentage of .500, a free throw percentage of .783, and has also so far, recorded 19 steals on the season, good enough for fourth in the league. Teammate Kimmie Hicks is fifth in the league for steals with 17.
