BETHLEHEM, Pa. – A trio of Eagles from American University field hockey–
Jordan Reicher,
Agustina Roffo, and
Sophie Willemse–have been voted to the Academic All-Patriot League Team. For Reicher and Willemse this each of their first appearances on the team, while this is Roffo's second consecutive appearance on the team.
American led the way, along with Holy Cross, with three selections apiece, ahead Lafayette and Lehigh which each tallied a pair. Voting for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year and All-Academic Team is done by the league's field hockey sports information directors.
All season long, Reicher has been unstoppable on the turf and that rings true in the classroom as well. The junior striker carries a remarkable 3.87 GPA while working toward her Bachelor of Arts in environmental studies. In her prior two years, Reicher has twice been named to the PL Academic Honor Roll ('23, '24) and was an NFHCA National Academic Squad member in 2023. One day prior to her announcement to the All-Academic team, she was named this season's Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year in addition to earning a spot on the All-League First Team.
Roffo, a graduate student midfielder, holds a cumulative GPA of 3.82 and graduated with her Bachelor of Science in neuroscience from AU in May. Still studying neuroscience while she peruses her master's degree from American, Roffo also teaches as a TA in a lab on campus in addition to doing her own research with a lab. Throughout her career at American, she has been a three-time NFHCA National Academic Squad Member ('22, '23, '24), a three-time PL Academic Honor Roll Member ('22, '23, '24), and was a CSC Academic All-District Honoree for the 2024-25 school year. This is the Argentinian's third honor of the 2025 postseason after having been selected as the PL Midfielder of the Year and earning a place on the All-League First team.
Joining Reicher and Roffo on the All-Academic team for her first appearance is Willemse. The junior midfielder has been an unfaltering staple to the center of the field for American this season and in the classroom carries a 3.87 GPA while studying for a degree in business administration with a focus in information systems and tech & data science. Willemse, in 2023, was named an NFHCA Division I Scholar of Distinction, and in both 2023 and 2024 earned a spot on both the NFHCA National Academic Squad and the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. This is Willemse's second honor this postseason, having already been selected to the PL All-League Second Team.
American will open postseason play this this week as the No. 1 seed in the Patriot League Tournament. AU will host all three games of the tournament starting with the two semifinals on Thursday, Nov. 7. The first semifinal between the Eagles and No. 4 Boston University will open the tournament at 11 a.m. No. 2 Lafayette will take the field against No. 3 Bucknell at 2 p.m.
The Patriot League Championship game will be held at Jacobs Complex at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9.
