Series History
  • This matchup is set to be the 13th time the Explorers and the Eagles have battled it out, and in a series dating back to 1980, La Salle holds the 8-3 advantage.
  • The two programs have battled it out the last two seasons with AU falling both times. Each time was separated by nine points, with the Eagles most recently falling 69-60 in Bender Arena in 2024.
  • In that most recent matchup, the Explorers pulled down 44 rebounds to the Eagles' 34, including a 20-6 advantage on the offensive glass that led to a 14-5 lead in second-chance points.
  • Turnovers were also costly for AU, who committed 24 of them to La Salle's 15. The Explorers led in points off turnovers, 26-16.
Tipping Off
  • Looking to get back into the win column, the Eagles are coming off a 69-55 loss against LIU on Thursday (Nov. 20). They are now 1-3 for the season after opening the season with a win against Delaware State before dropping to Clemson, Delaware, and LIU.
  • The Sharks and the Eagles were evenly matched in points in the paint, but LIU forced 17 turnovers to American's 15 and would score 23 points off of those turnovers.
  • LIU would end up shooting 44.6 percent from the floor while holding the Eagles to 39.7, although neither team shot well from distance, the Sharks 25.9 percent from three point range while AU shot 22.2 percent.
  • Sophomore guard Molly Driscoll led the Eagles in scoring against the Sharks, matching her season-high 18 points. Driscoll has led the team in scoring in three of their four contests, scoring 10+ points in all four games, and averaging 16.0 ppg.
  • Driscoll's field goal percentage is up to .445. She is currently ranked fifth in the Patriot League in scoring.
  • Freshman Charlotte Tuhy also reached double digits against LIU with 10 points. She led the Eagles on the boards with nine rebounds. The forward was one shy of achieving her third double-double in four games and has led AU on the glass in every game played thus far, averaging 10.0 rpg and 9.8 ppg. Tuhy is ranked third in the PL in rebounds per game.
  • Sophomore guard Madisyn Moore-Nicholson is also finding success offensively this season, averaging 9.0 ppg with a field goal percentage of .433.
Scouting the Explorers
  • La Salle is 4-1 on the season so far, opening with a three-game win streak. The Explorers earned wins against the Patriot League's Loyola Maryland and Lehigh earlier this month, and after a loss to crosstown Temple, are back in the win column, coming off an 83-50 win over West Chester on Nov. 18.
  • In their most recent matchup against the Golden Rams, four Explorers scored in double digits, led by redshirt junior guard Ashleigh Connor, with 18 points and a career-high 12 rebounds. Connor leads the Explorers in points this season with 96, averaging 19.2 points per game.
  • Junior Aryss Macktoon scored 17 points and had 14 rebounds, earning her second double-double this season against West Chester. Macktoon has scored 10+ points in all five games so far this season, including a season-high 25 points in the Explorers' season opener against Loyola Maryland.
  • La Salle held West Chester to single digit point tallies in both the second and fourth quarters, outscoring the Rams 18-2 in the second quarter. The Explorers had built up a 20-point lead by the half that was never threatened, posting up 21 points in the fourth quarter for the win comfortable win at home.
  • The Explorers committed only 15 turnovers to the Rams' 21. This season, they've averaged 16.2 turnovers per game to their opponents' 20.4. They're leading the Eagles in points per game and field goal percentage but the Eagles have a narrow edge in three point field goal percentage.
