BETHLEHEM, Pa - Adding to American University volleyball's list of accomplishments this season, Deniz Dakak, Bella Marrero, and Carly Sciborski have been recognized for their efforts both on the court and in the classroom as selections to the 2025 Academic All-Patriot League Team. 

Dakak was announced as the Patriot League Player of the Year and Setter of the Year earlier this week, and now adds an academic accolade to her historic year on the court. The setter holds a 3.51 GPA while working towards her Bachelor of Arts in business administration. Last season, Dakak was named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. 

Marrero joined Dakak as a major award winner this week, taking home Libero of the Year honors. Marrero was spectacular at libero all season long, racking up 371 digs and anchoring a defense that held the third-lowest opponent hitting percentage in the country at .140. In the classroom, the environmental studies major worked toward a 3.84 GPA as a sophomore. It's the second academic achievement of Marrero's career, as she was selected to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in 2024 as well. 

Carly Sciborski made an impactful return to AU's lineup, playing in nearly every set of American's dominant season after missing all of last year due to injury. The junior opposite hitter swung for 112 kills, totaled 41 blocks, and 41 digs in a productive year. Sciborski did exemplary work off the court, carrying a remarkable 3.89 GPA in pursuit of her Bachelor of Arts in Communications Studies. Involved on campus, Carly is also a member of the American University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, interned with the AU Athletics department in the summer of 2025, and does satire writing for the AU newspaper The Rival.

The Eagles begin the Patriot League Tournament on Friday night, hosting Navy in the semifinal round at 6:30 p.m.
