Volleyball Sweeps Lafayette in Regular Season Finale, Completes 15-Match Winning Streak

EASTON, Pa. - Hitting above .400 in all three sets and committing just three errors as a team, the American University volleyball team put a bow on a historic regular season with a commanding sweep of Lafayette on Friday night. The Eagles end the campaign with 22 wins overall and 15 in Patriot League play, the most since 2019 in both categories.

Notable
  • American finishes the season on a 15-match win streak, the longest streak since the 2019 season. 
  • Sophie Dufour and Salme Adeele Hollas both had 11 kills, with Dufour hitting .357 and Hollas .500. Dufour now has 345 kills, as the freshman continues to pace American. 
  • Deniz Dakak had a widespread impact, recording 31 assists, four aces, nine digs, two kills, and a block. The sophomore ends the regular season leading the Patriot League with 947 assists. 
  • Prinzez Zeck, Carly Sciborski, and Elise Sterling continued to dominate l up front. Zeck had nine kills, Sciborski with eight, and Sterling with four, as all of the hit above .400. Zeck hit an incredible .643. 
  • Sterling ends the campaign with a .414 hitting percentage, the second-highest mark in a single season in program history. 
  • The Eagles had 10 aces on the night, with Dakak's four leading the way. Sterling and Hollas each had two, while Alex Ioannou added one. 
  • Bella Marrero led AU in digs with 11. The sophomore libero ends the regular season averaging 4.42 digs per set, tied for fourth in program history. 
How it Happened
  • The Eagles broke open the first set with a 9-3 run that extended their two-point lead to an eight-point lead at 17-9. 
  • Zeck had four kills on the run, along with a block assist shared with Hollas. American hit a blistering .567 in the frame. 
  • Continuing to hit it well into the second set, the Eagles got out to a 16-8 lead before a Lafayette timeout. 
  • The Leopards clawed back into the set, but a 12-10 run proved to be too little too late. Dufour had three kills to lead the way for AU. 
  • The Eagles led for the entirety of the third set, but had to stave off a comeback late.
  • Trailing 23-13, Lafayette rattled off seven straight points to put some pressure on the visitors, but the run ended on a Sophia Wilson service error and an attack error by Abby Nicholson. 
  • Dufour added another three kills in the final set to power AU.

  • The Eagles will await the lowest remaining seed from the first round of the Patriot League Tournament, hosting the semifinal round at Bender Arena on Friday, Nov. 21.
