Swimming & Diving Teams Win 23 of 26 Events in Dual Meet Victories Over Catholic

WASHINGTON - After two consecutive meets on the road, American University swimming & diving returned to campus hungry for a win. AU posted a dominant performance, as the Eagles won 23 of 26 events against Catholic University to collect dual meet wins for both the men's team and women's team.

Notable Results
  • On the women's side, many AU swimmers competed in events they don't typically specialize in, with relay teams also mixing things up from the usual lineups.
  • Both 200 medley relay victories went to Eagles as they started the meet off strong.
  • Stepping up in place of the usual suspects in the women's 1000 free, sophomore Claire Mosher won with a time of 10:50.98.
  • Sophomore Luke Martens won the men's 1000 free with a time of 9:52. He later won the men's 500 free with a time of 4:44.41.
  • Sprint specialist Grace Gilbert hung on to win the 200 free in 1:57.76 after being out in :55 flat. Junior Kate Williams and sophomore Hailey Rees finished in second and third, respectively, and were both under 2:00 as well.
  • Junior Lucas Standridge and freshman Matthew Pistorino went 1-2 in the men's 200 free, with Standridge winning in 1:45.68.
  • Seniors Isabel McGovern and Dylan Moulton finished 1-2 in the women's 50 free, with McGovern sprinting to a time of 24.83.
  • The men followed suit in the 50 free with freshman Gavin Shifflett and sophomore Charlie St. Louis. Shifflett won with a time of 22.01.
  • Sophomore Marin Priddy made a rare appearance in the women's 200 IM, but commanded the race nonetheless with a winning time of 2:09.76.
  • Freshman Van Paul picked up his first two individual collegiate wins in the men's 200 IM (2:00.93) and the men's 100 breast (1:00.24).
  • Juniors Sam Kohm and Fiona McMahon took wins in the men's 100 fly (51.95) and women's 100 free (54.30) respectively.
  • Freshman diver Alex Way won the men's 3-meter, and senior Peyton Thurman won both the women's 1 and 3-meter.
  • In the men's 100 back, the trio of sophomore Ryan Pursley and juniors Connor Florence and Henry Bysshe went 1-2-3 for the Eagles. Pursley's winning time was 52.91.
  • The freshman duo of Lucy Penna and Abby Rothrock teamed up for a 1-2 finish in the women's 500 free with times of 5:13.43 and 5:14.66, respectively.
  • McGovern, Penna, freshman Maia Alston, and sophomore Demetra Bicos closed the meet out strong for the women with a decisive 200 free relay win.
  • The quartet of St. Louis, Standridge, Shifflett, and Florence came from behind to win a gritty men's 200 free relay by five hundredths of a second, ending the meet on a highlight.
