BETHLEHEM, Pa. - After amassing 31 kills and 23 digs and leading American University volleyball to two victories on Friday and Sunday,
Sophie Dufour has been named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week. This is the fifth honor for the freshman outside hitter, who continues to impress in her freshman campaign.
Dufour was outstanding in both of AU's victories this past weekend, beginning with an 11-kill and nine-dig showing against Lafeyette on Friday night. She hit .444 on the evening, and followed the performance with a double-double on Sunday against Holy Cross. Dufour put down a season-high 20 kills, and added 14 digs in a 3-1 win over the Crusaders. She upped her efficiency to an incredible .474 on the day, bringing her season average to .282.
Outside hitter
Salme Adeele Hollas and libero
Bella Marrero earned an honorable mention in this week's awards, piling on to a well-rounded team effort for AU. Hollas followed just behind Dufour on the offensive side of the ball, hitting .393 with 24 kills and 10 digs across the two matches. Both her and Dufour are averaging over three kills per set.
Marrero was excellent on the defensive end for the Eagles, totaling 30 digs and just three reception errors on the weekend. Showing her versatility all over the floor, Marrero also dished out nine assists and placed five service aces to pace AU in multiple areas.
The Eagles are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 3 p.m in Worcester to face off with Holy Cross for a second time.
