WASHINGTON – On Wednesday, the Eagles of the American University women's basketball squad will square off in Bender against Boston University. Both teams are coming into the contest 0-2 in the Patriot League, and tip against the Terriers is set for 11:30 a.m.

Series History
- In the past five meetings, the Terriers hold a 3-2 advantage over the Eagles. Last season, the two programs split the series including a double-overtime win for American in Bender in the first bout last season but swept AU in the 2022-23 season.
- In the most recent game against BU, the Eagles suffered a narrow defeat (58-56) in the final moments of the game on the road in Boston. The Terriers shot 40 percent from the floor in front of their home crowd, Alex Giannaros walked off the court with 14 points. Former Terrier Caitlin Weimer had 20 points, six rebounds, and five blocks.
- At the final buzzer of the double OT, 91-87, win in Bender, Laura Nogues had dropped a career-high 24 points and gone 5-for-8 from deep while Bailey Garbee had 12 points and Ivy Bales had nine to pair with her team-leading nine rebounds. Giannaros had dropped a whopping 30 points, going 5-for-10 from distance while Weimer had 26 points and 11 rebounds.

- American is still looking for its first win of the season after starting 0-13, including, most recently a loss to the Crusaders of Holy Cross in Worcester, for game two of the PL season. The Eagles and the Crusaders battled it out, but Holy Cross cruised past AU with a run to start the final period, claiming the 69-61 victory over American.
- Cecilia Kay finished the game off with 12 boards, the most of any player on the floor. She recorded her second double-double, first in Patriot League play, with 11 points.
- Guards Ivy Bales and Bailey Garbee were the heart of the game throughout. Bales led the team with her season-high 15 points on 6-for-9 shooting and Garbee had nine points as well as two rebounds, two assists, a steal, and a block. Laura Nogues had a stuffed stat line at the final buzzer, eight points, three rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
- Kay is seventh and Bales 12th in the league in rebounding, averaging 6.9 and 5.3 boards per game respectively. The freshman forward leads the team in scoring, averaging 9.5 ppg. She's third in the league in blocked shots (20).
- Coming into the matchup with Boston at 10th and 11th in the Patriot League in assists per game, are Nogues (2.9) and Bales (2.8). Nogues sits at second on the team in scoring averaging, hitting 8.7 ppg followed by first year Molly Driscoll (6.8) and fellow junior Anna Rescifina (6.7).
Scouting Boston University
- The Terriers come into Bender arena on a two-game loss streak, having dropped their first two league contests to Lafayette at home in Case Gym and to Army on the road. Despite BU holding the Black Knights to five points in the final frame and scoring 18, they were unable to overcome the deficit and fell 69-59.
- Giannaros led the way with her 13 points, proving she's still effective from distance, going 3-for-5 from deep. Both Audrey Ericksen and Sisi Bentley followed with eight points apiece. Aoibhe Gormley led the Terriers on the glass with eight rebounds.
- Senior guard Giannaros tops the Terriers by a wide margin in scoring this season, averaging 15.0 points per game. She's fifth in the league in scoring and sixth in field goal percentage (.414). She also boasts an average of 2.6 triples per game, good enough for second in the PL, and she's first in three point field goal percentage (.395).
- Allison Schwertner and Bella McLaughlin are second and third for BU in terms of scoring, dropping an average of 8.1 and 7.3 points per game, respectively. The team has been struggling to rebound this season, but Schwertner leads the team on the glass with 4.9 boards per game, the team overall averaging 4.6 per contest.
- Gormley comes into the contest at eighth in the league in assists with an average of 3.0 per game and seventh in steals (1.6/game). Junior forward Anete Adler and McLaughlin are both leading the team in blocked shots with nine.
