WASHINGTON – The American University men's soccer team has announced its fall 2024 schedule, featuring eight non-conference games and a full slate of Patriot League contests.
Due to the
planned $1.5 million renovation of Reeves Field in the late spring of 2025, and the ongoing construction of the Alan and Amy Meltzer Center for Athletic Performance, American has designated the Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds, Md., just east of Gaithersburg, as its home field in the fall of 2024.
The Eagles will play eight home games at SoccerPlex while making nine road trips during the 2024 season.
Preseason Tests
- Prior to the start of the season, American is set for three exhibition games against Georgetown, George Mason and Penn State.
- The Eagles will once again make the short trip to Georgetown for an exhibition game on Friday, August 9, to play against the Hoyas, who made it to the Big East Championship game in 2023.
- American will keep it local for its second exhibition, as it travels to George Mason on Sunday, August 11.
- American will host Penn State for its final exhibition on August 16. The Nittany Lions made it to the Big Ten Championship game in 2023.
Non-Conference Notes
- The Eagles are slated to face eight non-conference opponents, including two first-time matchups in the history of AU men's soccer. American will open the season on August 22 with its first-ever contest against California Baptist, and later in the season, the Eagles will travel to Vermont on September 7 for a first-time tilt with the Catamounts.
- California Baptist won the WAC Championship in 2023, while Vermont advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament.
- American will host 2023 CAA Champions Hofstra on August 25 before traveling to UNC Wilmington on August 30.
- The Eagles will face Temple at home on September 2. In 2023, American beat the Owls for the first time since 1977.
- The rest of American's non-conference schedule will be spread throughout the season, as the Eagles will host UMBC on September 17, travel to VCU on October 1 and finish with a road trip to Virginia on October 15.
- VCU fell in the Atlantic 10 Championship game in 2023, while Virginia advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
