Lacrosse Closes out March with Home Game Against Holy Cross on Saturday

WASHINGTON – Fresh off its first Patriot League victory of the season, the American University lacrosse team is coming back home to host Holy Cross at noon on Saturday, March 30. Of the Eagles final five regular-season contests, just two are at home.

SCOUTING AMERICAN 

  • The Eagles enter the matchup with a 5-6 record, most recently snapping a four-game losing streak with a 12-5 Patriot League victory at Lafayette on March 27.
  • Seven different players scored for AU in the win, which saw the Eagles down 3-0 before out-scoring the Leopards 12-2 the rest of the way and 8-1 in the second half.
  • Senior Hannah Spease picked up two draw controls in the Eagles' game against Colgate on March 23 to reach the milestone of 100 draws in her career. Spease has tallied 31 draws this season to lead the team.
  • Sophomore Reagan Murdoch has posted five hat tricks this season including three in the last five games. She leads American with 31 points from 27 goals and four assists.
  • Junior attacker Alyssa Apuzzo has a team-best 11 assists this season, along with 10 goals for 21 points.
  • Goalkeeper Caleigh Forti has made 107 saves this season, with her 10.70 saves per game ranking first in the Patriot League. Forti has a save percentage of .493 across 10 games played, which ranks second among all goalkeepers in the Patriot League. Backup goalkeeper Lexi Rakis got the start and played the complete game at Lafayette on March 27, earning her first career victory behind a career-high 12 saves on the night.
  • Following the match against Holy Cross, American will play three of its final four regular season games on the road, starting with a noon game at Army on April 6. Senior Day for the Eagles is set for Saturday, April 13 against Bucknell at noon.

SCOUTING HOLY CROSS

  • After starting the season 0-2, Holy Cross travels to Washington in search of its eighth straight win. The Crusaders' most recent win came against Bucknell last Saturday, defeating the Bison 18-10 at home. 
  • In that game, senior Lauren Drillock and junior Isabela Miller led the Crusaders in scoring, grabbing seven points apiece with four goals and three assists each.
  • Accompanying the attacking power of Dillock and Miller, junior Sally Zinsner leads Holy Cross in goals this season with 34 through 10 games played. She also sits fifth in the Patriot League for goals per game.
  • Regarding goalkeeping in last weekend's game, senior Tori Cini and sophomore Mackenzie Creagh split the match, combining for 10 saves on 20 shots.
  • Miller leads the Patriot League in both assists per game (3.18) and points per game (5.55). Drillock sits second in assists (2.36 per game) and seventh in points per game (4.91).
  • As a team, the Crusaders rank third with 14.73 goals per game and first with 23.72 points per game. They also lead the PL with nine assists per game.
  • Following its trip to American, Holy Cross will return home next Saturday, April 6, to face Navy on Senior Day.
