Lacrosse Hosts Patriot League Foe Colgate for Pride Day on Saturday, March 23

WASHINGTON – The first Patriot League home game for American University lacrosse since mid-February has the Eagles hosting the Colgate Raiders at noon on Saturday, March 23. It's both the Pride Game and Alumni Day for the Eagles, looking to get back on the winning track.

PRIDE GAME

  • Lacrosse is celebrating its annual PRIDE game against Colgate on Saturday. The team will be wearing special Pride t-shirts, arm bands, hair ties, and tattoos during the game.
  • The first 50 students will receive a FREE custom AU Mini Pride Flag.

SCOUTING AMERICAN 

  • The Eagles enter the matchup with a 4-5 record, most recently falling to Siena by a score of 13-9.
  • In AU's other contest last week at Iona, the squad was led by senior Hannah Spease with six goals off six shots on goal. She also had two ground ball pickups and grabbed five draw controls. Spease is now only two draw controls away from 100 draws in her career.
  • Reagan Murdoch, sophomore midfielder, scored three goals against Siena for a hat trick. Two of Murdoch's goals came within the last 1:37 of the contest to bring the difference down to just one goal. Murdoch leads the team with 25 points from 21 goals and four assists.
  • On defense against Siena, Jenna Walls led with three caused turnovers and three ground balls, and Jordan Mitchell topped the whole team with six draws. Mitchell picked up a ground ball and had a caused turnover while Walls also notched an assist. Walls tops the defense with 11 caused turnovers on the season.
  • Goalkeeper Caleigh Forti leads in ground balls for the team with 29. Forti has a save percentage of .500 across the eight games played. In the game against Iona she tallied 11 saves and a save percentage of .458.
  • Following the match against Colgate, American will travel to Lafayette midweek before returning home next weekend to take on Holy Cross.

SCOUTING COLGATE

  • Colgate travels to Washington this weekend still searching for its first win of the season, carrying an 0-8 record after their most recent 19-7 defeat to #18 Navy.
  • Head coach Kathy Taylor aims to turn the season around for her Raiders, handling the worst start to a season in her Colgate career since joining in June of 2019.
  • In the matchup against Navy, senior Lucy Licata had three assists and junior Kyra Lucey scored three goals to lead the team in points. Lucey also leads the team in points with 19 on the season.
  • Freshman goalkeeper Lauren Solis sits third in the Patriot League for saves per game, averaging 9.56 with 86 saves on the season. Solis also leads the team in ground balls with 24. 
  • Sophomore attacker Caroline Panzirer has been a consistent source of offense for the Raiders this season, sitting fifth in the Patriot League for assists per game with a 1.67 average on 13 assists.
  • Junior Kait Henning is tied for third in team points for the Raiders with 14, coming into the matchup against the Eagles with 11 goals and three assists.
  • Following the matchup against American, the Raiders will return home for a break in Patriot League play, facing Cornell on Tuesday, March 26 before going back on the road to take on Loyola Maryland.
