Women’s Basketball Plays Host to Colgate

WASHINGTON – After a midweek battle against Boston University that came down to the wire, the American University women's basketball team will be back home on Saturday, Feb. 24 to take on Colgate. The Eagles hope to get themselves back in the win column, looking to sweep the series with the Raiders. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.

INSIDE THE SERIES  
  • In a series that dates back 22 years, American holds a 39-9 record, including having won on the road in Hamilton earlier this season over Colgate. It was a close, 56-54, victory that was ground out in the final quarter until the final moments.
  • In their second meeting of the season, both teams sit with a 7-7 record in the Patriot League. History is on the side of the Eagles though, as they have a 19-2 advantage over the Raiders in Bender Arena.
  • In the most recent meeting on January 27, the Eagles were led by Emily Johns with 13 points and six rebounds while Kayla Henning and Bailey Garbee each had 12 points. Garbee went 5-for-7 from the field.
  • Tiasia McMillan led for the Raiders with 12 points and Sophie Diehl topped out in rebounding with 10.
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT AMERICAN  
  • While Colgate is on a three-game winning streak, American is riding a three-game loss streak, most recently dropping to Boston University 58-56 on Wednesday evening. The contest came down to the final moments to determine a winner, but AU is looking to turn it around by sweeping the Raiders at home.
  • In their most recent outing, both Molly Lavin and Emily Johns racked up nine points in the first half alone. Through the full 40, the two forwards were good for 11 and 17 points, respectively.
  • Lavin also led the Eagles with seven rebounds. Ivy Bales and Anna LeMaster had six and five each. On the season, Bales (5.0 rpg), Lavin (4.8 rpg), and LeMaster (4.4 rpg) are the top three rebounders on the team, along with Lauren Stack (4.4 rpg).
  • In scoring, Johns leads the team for the season with an average of 12.2 points per game and a .490 field goal percentage, followed by Bales with 9.1 ppg and a .465 percentage from the floor.
  • Bales leads American and sits second in the Patriot League with steals, averaging 2.2 per game, with 56 overall. Stack is sixth in steals with an average of 1.6 per game, 39 overall.
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT COLGATE
  • The Raiders are on an upward swing after a seven-game losing streak. Most recently, they topped out, 75-49, at home over Lafayette midweek to secure their third win in a row. Colgate shot 50 percent (28-for-56) from the floor.
  • In the game against the Leopards, 10 different scorers led the way to the victory, but Tiasia McMillan took the prize home. The senior forward dropped 18 points, 10 in the first quarter alone to set the pace for Colgate on the evening.
  • Amarah Streiff was the second Raider in double digits with a career-high 13 points, eight of which came in the final period and Madison Schiller was the third member of the squad to score in double-digits with 10.
  • For the season, Colgate is being led by Taylor Golembiewski in scoring, averaging 12.1 points per game. Followed by McMillan at 9.9 ppg and Alexa Brodie with 9.7 ppg. McMillan also leads the team in blocks with 22 on the season.
  • On the defensive end, Sophie Diehl leads the Raiders with an average of 6.5 rpg, followed by McMillan who's averaging 4.8 boards per game. Schiller is on top of pickpocketing with 32 steals.
