WASHINGTON – Coming off a crosstown road win on Wednesday, the American University lacrosse team is hoping to keep the momentum going when they take on UMBC on Saturday, February 24 at Jacobs Complex. The contest is scheduled to start at noon.

SERIES HISTORY
- The Eagles were able to defeat the Retrievers last season (Feb. 18, 2023) for the first time in twenty years. UMBC and American have faced off 20 times and the Retrievers hold a 21-3 advantage in the series and have yet to lose in D.C.
- In the contest last season, American was able to squeak out a win in regulation, taking the game on a free position shot from Annabelle Jackson just before the final buzzer to win 15-14.
- The freshman pair of Kellie Linehan and Jackson led for the Eagles with four goals apiece.
- The Retrievers led 9-7 at halftime and their keeper, Isabella Fontana, made 13 saves in the match.
SCOUTING AMERICAN
- The Eagles are 2-2 early in the season, having downed Howard and George Washington on the road while falling to Georgetown and #7 Loyola at home. In their most recent game against GW midweek, American took flight in the second half, going on an 8-2 run to defeat the Revolutionaries, 10-5.
- Junior Becca Frank recorded a three-goal hat trick to lead the charge while Alyssa Apuzzo and Reagan Murdoch scored two goals apiece. Frank is tied for the team-lead with seven goals and has a team-high 11 points. Murdoch is the athlete tied with Frank for the team-high in goals (7) with Frank.
- Junior attacker Maddy Spratt has found the back of the net six times and has added three assists for nine points. She's matched in points by Apuzzo. The pair trail only Frank who's carrying 11 points into Saturday's contest.
- On the defensive end, junior goalkeeper Caleigh Forti is allowing 12.32 goals per game and has a .518 save percentage, having faced 111 shots in four games. Freshman Dierdre Brown leads the defensive line with six caused turnovers on the season and senior Jordan Mitchell had 10 draw controls.
SCOUTING UMBC
- The Retrievers are 2-1 on the season, most recently cruising to a 12-4 victory over George Washington on Saturday, three days before the Eagles themselves took on the Revolutionaries.
- In the win over GW, UMBC juniors Kolby Weedon and Katana Nelson scored three goals apiece.
- The Retrievers bolted out of the gate, taking a 4-0 lead after one quarter and extended it to 5-0 before GW could respond. Sophomore Lizzie Bateman scored her first two collegiate goals in that opening run. At intermission, UMBC led 7-2 before continuing on to their smooth victory.
- UMBC dominated the shot chart, taking 32 of the game's 46 attempts. Senior goalkeeper Isabella Fontana only needed to make four stops, while her counterpart, Mia Caro stopped 11 for GW.
- Across their three games so far, the Retrievers have outscored their opponents 38-15 and are shooting 75 percent of their shots on goal. They are also averaging 30.7 shots per game while holding opponents to 18.3.
