Women Set Two School Relay Records on Day One of PL Swim & Dive Championships

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The first two school records have fallen on day one of the 2024 Patriot League Championships for American University swimming & diving. Both records belong to the women's team, as the 200 medley relay and 800 freestyle relay teams both finished with the top times in program history. The men's foursome came just three one-hundredths of a second from their own school record in the 200 medley relay.

Notable
  • With a time of 1:42.15, junior Amaya Tomma, sophomore Grace Netz, senior Mimi Watts and freshman Lian Jeong Engle put their names atop the record list in the 200 medley relay, besting the previous record from 2022. They took sixth place overall, matching last year's result but improving on the time.
  • Later in the evening, sophomores Isabel McGovern, Katie Yoo and Dylan Moulton teamed up with freshman Kate Williams for a school-record finish of 7:35.51 in the women's 800 freestyle relay, placing eighth. The previous record had been set four years ago in 2020.
  • McGovern's lead-off leg of 1:51.34 is a new PR for her in the 200 free and ranks fifth all-time among personal bests in program history.
  • Junior Aidan Delehanty led off the men's 200 medley relay and was followed by seniors Will Deitch, Caleb Farris and Nick Buckley. The foursome finished in eighth place and came extremely close to their own school record of 1:30.03, finishing eighth in 1:30.06.
  • In the final race of the night, the men's 800 freestyle relay team of freshman Lucas Standridge, senior Joe Melin, senior Carlos Cordero and junior Seamus Brown finished in 6:53.99 which ranks 16th all-time at AU.
  • Three Eagles participated in the first diving event of the championships, the women's 3-meter. Sophomore Peyton Thurman recorded the top score for AU of 195 in the prelims.
