Swim & Dive Teams Look to Impress Yet Again at 2024 Patriot League Championships

WASHINGTON - Coming off a season that saw American University men's and women's swimming & diving have a big presence at a competitive Patriot League Championships, the Eagles are looking to continue that rise as they head to the United States Naval Academy for this year's meet from Feb. 21-24 at Lejeune Hall.

Session Times

Wednesday - 1 p.m. diving trials followed by diving consolation final, 5 p.m. finals (3M women's diving, 200 medley relay, 800 free relay.)
Thursday - 10 a.m. swimming trials, 1 p.m. diving trials followed by diving consolation final, 6 p.m. finals (500 free, 200 IM, 50 free, 1M men's diving, 400 medley relay night only.)
Friday - 10 a.m. swimming trials, 1 p.m. diving trials followed by diving consolation final, 6 p.m. finals (100 fly, 400 IM, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back, 1M women's diving, 200 free relay night only)
Saturday - 10 a.m. swimming trials, 1 p.m. diving trials followed by diving consolation final, 6 p.m. finals (200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly, 1650 free, 3M men's diving, 400 freestyle relay night only)

Fans

The fan shuttle bus from Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium runs from 4-9 p.m. on Wednesday and 9:30 a.m.-10:30 p.m. (or past the end of the session) Thursday-Saturday. Advance tickets remain on sale through the Navy Ticket Office.

Athletes to Watch

Returning for American is the 2023 Patriot League Women's Swimmer of the Meet and three-time champion, Mimi Watts. This will be the third PL Championships for the senior, as the pandemic did not allow for a conference championship in her freshman season.
Watts captured titles in the 50 free, 100 free and 100 fly a season ago, and holds school records in those events as well as in the 100 back, 200 fly and four relays.
Others to watch on the women's side include freshman Lian Jeong Engle in the 50 free, 100 free and 100 breaststroke, sophomore transfer Isabel McGovern in the 100 fly, 200 fly and 200 IM, and Amaya Tomma in the 100 fly, 100 back and 200 back.
Sophomore diver Peyton Thurman will look to advance to her first A finals on the 1-meter and 3-meter after coming close on the 3-meter a year ago.
On the men's side, seniors Nick Buckley and Caleb Farris will both compete in the 50 free, 100 free and 100 fly. Buckley holds the school record in the 50 free, Farris holds the school record in the 100 fly, and both are in the top five in the 100 free.
Junior diver Griffin Batt will look to contribute points on the 1-meter and 3-meter after posting the program's sixth-best PR on the 3-meter and fourth-best on the 1-meter so far this season. He advanced to the consolation final in both events a year ago.
There are a handful of freshmen and newcomers on both teams who have made a significant impact this season in addition to Jeong Engle and McGovern, including Kate Williams in the distance freestyle events, Connor Florence and Dylan Moulton in sprint freestyle, Daniel Coughlin in butterfly, and Lucas Standridge in mid-distance freestyle.
The current foursome of Buckley, Farris, Will Deitch and Aidan Delehanty hold the school record in the 200 medley relay.
On the women's side, current swimmers are a part of four of five relay school records that were set in 2022 and 2023 at PL Championships.
