Lacrosse Starts Patriot League Play Against #7 Loyola Maryland

WASHINGTON – To start off Patriot League play, the American University women's lacrosse will be hosting #7 Loyola Maryland on Friday, Feb. 16 at 1 pm. at Jacobs Complex.

SERIES HISTORY
  • The Eagles and the Hounds have faced off 24 times in program history, with Loyola claiming all 24 victories, which includes nine games at Jacobs Complex.
  • The last time the two faced off was March of 2023, in Baltimore, where the Eagles fell 7-19 to the then #9 Hounds.
  • In that game, American was led by two freshmen offensively, with Kellie Linehan and Annabelle Jackson each scoring two goals. Lexi Rakis had nine saves.
  • For Loyola, both Jillian Wilson and Chase Boyle had career-highs. Wilson finished with a career-high six goals and Boyle finished with a career-high of five. Wilson has since graduated, but Boyle remains on the roster.
SCOUTING AMERICAN
  • The Eagles are 1-1 to start off the season. After falling 13-18 to crosstown rivals Georgetown, the squad then faced off with another cross-town contender, Howard, and pulled out a 14-9 victory.
  • Senior Hannah Spease and junior Maddy Spratt were the two Eagles who netted multiple goals on Wednesday afternoon against the Bison.
  • Spease tallied a hat trick while Spratt finished the day with a brace. Spease also managed to pick up four ground balls and six draw controls while Spratt had one ground ball and two draw controls as well as two assists.
  • Jasmine ConnorAnnabelle JacksonLizzie De GuzmanBecca Frank, and Reagan Murdoch all finished off the afternoon with a goal apiece. It was Connor's second goal of the season, Frank's third, and Murdoch's fifth after a prolific outing against Georgetown. Frank also added two assists for a four point total in the game.
  • The Eagles were narrowly edged out of the Patriot League Tournament in 2023 and have hopes of returning with a recruiting class of nine athletes that are already making their mark on all ends of the field.
SCOUTING LOYOLA MARYLAND
  • The Hounds opened the 2024 season against #10/12 Florida at home in Baltimore with a solid 18-10 victory over the Gators. Loyola out-scored Florida 8-2 in the third period and 2-0 in the fourth to run away with the win.
  • Georgia Latch led the scoring with a career-high six goals and three assists. The junior attacker also had four draw controls to add to her stat line.
  • Senior attacker Sydni Black contributed four goals and an assist to the offensive campaign, as well as claiming six draw controls and a ground ball.
  • Anna Ruby, a graduate student attacker, and junior midfielder Chase Boyle added three and two goals respectively. Chase also picked up nine draw controls, two assists, and a career-high three assists.
  • The Hounds made a three-game run in the NCAA Tournament in 2023, falling in the quarterfinals 16-6 to eventual Champions, Northwestern.
