Series History
  • This will be the 19th matchup between the Eagles and the Tigers who are tied at 9-all in the series.
  • In the last meeting, Towson narrowly beat out AU after a close game where the score was tied at 30 at half. All four of American's leading scorers in the contest, contributing 42 points to the effort, have left AU's roster, but returners Ivy Bales and Bailey Garbee each finished the contest with six rebounds.
  • Towson's leading scorer in that matchup, Patricia Anumgba, finished with 17 points, three steals, a block, and a rebound. She went 8-for-9 from the free-throw line. Anumgba has recently undergone shoulder surgery and is not expected to return until next season.
  • Turnovers and free-throws proved costly in the match up, with the Eagles turning the ball over 21 times to Towson. The Tigers grabbed 17 points from behind the stripe.
Quick Hits
  • American is still looking for its first win of the season after starting 0-7, including close losses against FDU at home, UMBC on the road, and Winthrop at El Clasico in Puerto Rico.
  • Molly Driscoll and Laura Nogues are coming in off hot performances versus Winthrop. Against the Eagles, Driscoll had a career night in points (24), rebounds (5), steals (3), and free throws (9). She went 9-for-9 from the charity stripe and went 5-for-9 from three. Driscoll was awarded as the PL's Rookie of the Week for her performance. Nogues finished with a season high 17 points. She had three sink in from deep.
  • Bailey Garbee also had a solid outing at El Clasico. Against Winthrop she had a team-leading eight rebounds, and against Milwaukee she had a team-leading 12 points, going 3-for-5 from three and 4-for-7 overall. She stuffed her line on the stat sheet against the Panthers with three rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
  • The Eagles are second in the league in combined team rebounds, averaging 37 per game, and second in defensive rebounds as well, 26.7 per game. AU's highest rebounding game this season was in game two, against FDU. American collected 45 total rebounds, 14 offensive and 31 defensive boards.
  • AU has three players averaging over eight points per game so far this season, two of whom are freshmen. In the lead is freshman forward Cecilia Kay. She averages 11.1 ppg across the Eagles' seven contests thus far. Junior Anna Rescifina and freshman Driscoll are both tallying an average of 8.1 ppg so far.
  • Kay is third in the Patriot League in rebounding, collecting an average of 7.4 per game, and is third in the league in blocked shots (13). Both junior guards, Nogues (3.0) and Rescifina (2.7) are top 10, eighth and ninth respectively, in the league in assists per game.
Scouting Towson
  • The Tigers are 1-7 so far on the season and are coming off a loss that featured a second half comeback falling just short against the Retrievers, ultimately dropping the game 65-60. TU's lone win came against Youngstown State at El Clasico in Puerto Rico over Thanksgiving break, topping the Penguins 68-57.
  • In that game, three Tigers finished in double digits, Khady Leye (19), Jordan Wakefield (17), and India Johnston (15) powered their team in a strong second half showing to victory. For her efforts, Leye was awarded CAA's Rookie of the Week honors.
  • Three members of the Towson squad are averaging over eight points per game so far in their eight games: Johnston (12.7), Leye (10.8), and Bristol (8.3). Leye is also topping the team in rebounder per game (7.3) and is seventh in the league in the statistic. Her first career double-double came against GW three weeks prior with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
  • Johnston is sixth in the league for three pointers per game, averaging two per contest with 18 made triples on the season.
  • The Tigers were picked to finish third in the CAA this season despite having lost one of their two leading scorers to graduation. Kylie Kornegay-Lucas finished the 2023-24 season with an average of 12.9 ppg, while Anumbgba, who is sidelined for the season after a shoulder injury, topped the Tigers in the previous season with a 14.4 points per game average.
