Track to Stay Local with Meet at George Mason

WASHINGTON – After a week off from competition, American University track will be back in action at the Patriot Games hosted by local rival George Mason at the GMU Fieldhouse in Fairfax Virginia.

There are 36 student athletes are scheduled to take the line, with graduate student Row Sullivan kicking things off Friday evening, January 26th, in the 5000m run at 6:40 p.m. and the remaining slate of races scheduled for the following day, January 27th, beginning with sophomore Fernando Ibarra in the men's 60m dash at 11:00 a.m.

GEORGE MASON PATRIOT GAMES – MEET INFORMATION  Notes
  • Sullivan will be making their season debut in the 5000m after finishing fourth in the 3000m at the Spartan Invitational two weeks ago. They currently sit ninth on the program indoor top 10 list with their 14:26 mark from last season.
  • Four Eagles will toe the line in the women's mile after focusing on other events last meet. June Mwaniki, a consistent standout in the distance events, will try a shorter challenge racing the mile for this meet after finishing in second at Ocean Breeze.
  • The men's mile will also feature four Eagles hoping to make some noise after focusing on off-distance events last meet. Junior Oscar Counsell already sits seventh on the indoor top-10 list with a PR of 4:08.72, with sophomores Carver Morgan and Kaden Kluth and first-year Mathias Deldicque all not far behind and hoping to crack into the school's record books.
  • First-year Malcolm Lewis will headline the 400m after earning the number nine all-time spot in school history for the event with a time of 51.74.
  • Sophomore Grace Kirk will be making her season debut, toeing the line in the 1000m alongside classmate Kate Riley, who finished fourth in the event last meet with a new PR of 3:07.99. Kirk will be competing in the 1000m for the first time in her career, but she sits ninth in school history in the indoor 800m with a best of 2:20.62.
  • On the men's side, graduate student Nathan Reeves will take a second stab at the 1000m after finishing sixth at Ocean Breeze. Reeves holds the second fastest indoor mile time in school history with a time of 4:05.71. Joining Reeves will be junior Danny O'Neill, who finished in 4:18.36 to take second in the mile the last time out, and first-year David Manfredi who will be making his indoor collegiate debut.
  • First-year Lorelei Bangit will return in the women's 200 after winning and setting a school record in the event at the Spartan Invite, running a time of 25.54. She'll also be among a group of three Eagles racing the 400m dash earlier in the day.
  • Sophomore Fernando Ibarra, who will also compete in the 60m dash earlier in the day, will be the lone entrant in the men's 200. Ibarra holds both the indoor and outdoor 200m school records, holding an all-time best of 21.55.
  • The last individual event of the day, the 3000m, will feature four athletes on both the men's and the women's side. For the women, graduate student Rachael Potter, sophomores Skyler Tatum and Annie Ripol, and senior Brooke Evans will all be representing the Eagles. Potter finished fourth at Ocean Breeze two weeks ago and holds a personal record of 10:13.31, nearing the mark of 10:08.66 needed to break into the program top-10.
  • The men's 3000m will feature the same lineup that took the line at the Spartan Invite, minus Sullivan, in first-year Hayden Hauser, sophomores Cooper Michaud and Jack Chandler, and senior Sean Stuck. Michaud and Chandler both came away with PRs two weeks ago.
