WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT AMERICAN
  • The Eagles are looking for win number four in a row and are coming off back-to-back dominant victories by double digits over Howard (15-2) and George Washington (16-5).
  • With the exception of an incredible, 7-0 season prior to COVID in the spring of 2020, the Eagles are off to their best start since the 2012 team was 3-1 before dropping its fifth contest.
  • In the win over GW, junior transfer Hannah Spease scored four goals for her second hat trick of the season, leading a group of eight total goal-scorers for the Eagles.
  • In the Howard victory, sophomore Maddy Spratt led the charge with three goals and an assist. All four of her shots were on goal.
  • Spratt leads American with nine goals and 13 total points so far in 2023, followed closely by freshman Kellie Linehan with seven goals and 12 total points. Spease has eight goals and two assists for 10 points while freshman Annabelle Jackson also has eight goals with one assist for nine points.
  • The freshmen trio of Jackson, Linehan, and Reagan Murdoch have accounted for 19 of American's 51 goals so far.
  • Junior goalkeeper Mary Alice Collins currently leads all Patriot League goalkeepers with a 4.0 goals against average.
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT MERCER
  • The Bears, who are coming off a 14-5 season that saw them advance to the NCAA Tournament after capturing the Big South Conference Championship, have gone 1-1 so far in 2023.
  • This season, Mercer was picked to repeat as Big South champions by the coaches as they were named Preseason Big South favorites.
  • Mercer opened the season with an 11-8 win against Virginia Tech, claiming its first-ever win over an ACC program.
  • Most recently, Mercer dropped a 20-14 contest in its home opener against Davidson.
  • Senior Shannon Urey leads Mercer with eight goals so far, while seniors Chloe Schaeffer and Erin Degnan have five goals apiece.
  • After starting its women's lacrosse program in 2015, it took Mercer just three seasons to earn its first NCAA Tournament berth in 2018. The Bears have gone in every season since then, not including 2020 when no tournament occurred.
