Women’s Basketball Will Face Bucknell in Regular Season Finale

WASHINGTON – The American University women's basketball team (8-20, 7-10 PL) will travel to Lewisburg, Pa. to take on the Bucknell Bison (12-16, 8-9 PL) in the final game of the regular season. As it stands, American can finish anywhere from sixth to eight in the Patriot League standings.

INSIDE THE SERIES
  • The Eagles lead the series against the Bison 27-25 in what has been an evenly based matchup throughout the years. In Lewisburg, Bucknell has the slight edge, leading 14-12 with a home court advantage.
  • The most recent meeting between the programs was two weeks prior, on Feb. 15 in Bender Arena, that saw Bucknell claim the victory over American, 52-64.
  • In that matchup, Lauren Stack led for the Eagles, matching her career high of 18 points while also grabbing four steals and three boards.
  • Emily Johns and Ivy Bales followed up Stack's performance with double-digit nights of their own, with 11 and 10 points respectively. Bales also led for the Eagles on the glass with eight rebounds; she also had four assists.
  • The Bison were led by Emma Theodorsson with 16. Remi Sisselman and Emma Shaffer each had 12 to follow Emma Shaffer got a double-double with her 12-point 21-rebound performance. She contributed to the Bison's 36-30 advantage on the boards.
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT AMERICAN
  • The Eagles are coming into the mid-week matchup on a two-win streak, most recently a 67-59 home win over the Greyhounds of Loyola.  American jumped out to an early lead in the game and maintained it despite a second-half push by Loyola.
  • Junior forward Emily Johns led the team with 19 points and six rebounds, but three other Eagles joined her in double digit points. She went 6-12 from the field to grab her 19 points. With her six rebounds she led the team. She also had two assists and a block.
  • Ivy Bales and Lauren Stack followed Johns' performance with 13 and 12 points respectively. Bales also had four assists while Stack finished the game with four steals. Anna LeMaster was the fourth Eagle in double-digits, finishing with 10 points, one rebound, and one steal.
  • Stack is second on the team in scoring average (9.1 ppg), in rebounds, (5.3 rpg) and leads the team and third in the league in steals (47), and in blocked shots (11). While Bales is fourth in the league in steals (46). Bales is also third in the league in assists (90), averaging 3.2 per game and 10th in rebounding average (6.3 rpg).
  • Johns is also 10th in the league in scoring average, fourth in field goal percentage (.462). She leads the Eagles in both categories.
  • On the season, American leads the league in steals (211), averaging 8.12 per game and is fourth in the league in assists with 340, averaging 13.08 per game.
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT BUCKNELL
  • The Bison are coming returning home from a road loss to Lafayette, 61-69, and are on a three-loss streak since winning their sixth in a row against American in Bender.
  • Both teams struggled to score out of the gate, but the second period saw a heated battle that eventually the Bison were able to stomp their way back into a tied game, even taking a 39-38 lead in the third, before Lafayette went on an 11-4 run to end the frame. It became a battle of free-throws to end the game that saw the Bucknell fall.
  • Isabella King was the exception to the three-point woes that Bucknell struggled with against Lafayette. The sophomore hit four of her eight shots from deep and shot 5-for-9 overall with a team-high 14 points in the contest.
  • Emma Shaffer scored 11 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for her ninth career double-double while Tai Johnson added 12 points on 6-for-10 shooting.
  • On the season, Cecelia Collins is sixth in the league in scoring (13.9 ppg), ninth in field goal percentage (.440), and fourth in free throw percentage (.720). She also boasts an average of 3.2 assists per game to sit fifth in the league.
  • Shaffer is fifth in rebounding (9.3 rpg), and seventh in the league in blocked shots (22); she leads Bucknell in both categories.
