ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The American University track team advanced three into the finals, had four individuals and the men's 4x800 relay team qualify for IC4A/ECACs, and picked up eight new personal records (PRs) on day one of two at the Patriot League Indoor Track Championships. On top of that, Senior
Row Sullivan picked up team points for the Eagles with their eighth-place finish in the men's 5000m final.
- To start the day for the Eagles, senior Nathan Reeves placed fifth in the men's mile semifinals with his time of 4:09.23 to qualify him to compete on Sunday in the finals. Classmate Tucker Zullo earned a personal best in the event as well.
- Freshman Owen Garrett was the second Eagle to set a PR on the day with his 55.15s finish in the men's 400m semifinals.
- Lucia Ianello, Jessica Bakas, and Kirah Tianga all competed in the women's 400m semis and each set a PR in the event to add to the running tally of Eagles for the day. Senior Kelsey Miskimins competed in the event and placed herself at 10th on the school's top-10 performers list with her finish of 1:03.14.
- In the men's 800m semifinals, junior Ethan Puc and freshman Kaden Kluth not only finished fourth and sixth respectively to move on to the finals, but also both earned IC4A/ECAC qualifications with their times. Puc also beat his previous personal best time in the event.
- Row Sullivan, while competing in the men's 5000m final event, placed eighth overall with their time of 14:29.94. Along with automatically qualifying for IC4A/ECACs with their time, they also earned a point for American in the overall team competition of the event.
- Junior June Mwaniki ran the women's 5000m final, crossing ninth overall with her time of 17:24.77 which is not only an automatic IC4A/ECAC qualification, but a personal best, beating her previous best set two weeks ago, by 24 seconds. Mwaniki also moved up from eighth to fourth on American's top-10 performers list with the finish.
- In the men's 200m semifinals, freshman Fernando Ibarra earned himself a personal record when he crossed the line in 22.33s. His improvement in the event firmly cements him at first place in the school's record books. Just two weeks ago, Ibarra broke the record that had been held in the event for 21 years. In the 60m, Ibarra also matched his fastest time, 7.18s, which has him sitting at fifth place on AU's top-10 performers in the event.
- In both the women's 60m and 200m freshman sprinter Chloee Dotts kept up her impressive rookie season. Dotts has already put herself at third- and second-place on AU's top-10 performers list in the 60m and 200m respectively, and her times this weekend keep her one pace with those that put her on the list, further solidifying herself as an integral part of the sprint team.
- The men's 4x800m relay team of Puc, Kluth, Tucker Zullo, and Oscar Counsell finished fifth overall in the final and earned an IC4A/ECAC qualification with their time.
- In the women's 4x800m relay, the team of Rowe Crawford, Grace Kirk, Callia Cordasco, and Kate Riley put themselves at seventh on the all-time school performance list with their time of 9:24.02. Riley's turn in the relay as the anchor matched her PR for the event, her leg going by in a swift 2:18.49.
