Wrestling Falls 19-13 to Binghamton on Senior Day

WASHINGTON - With a few too many very close losses, American University wrestling fell short to visiting Binghamton in the final home dual of the season. The Eagles lost 19-13 to the Bearcats on Senior Day and Alumni Day in front of a strong crowd of 350 on a Friday afternoon.

Notable
  • Fourth-year wrestler Connor Bourne got a 3-2 win on his Senior Day at 197 pounds against Dimitri Gamkrelidze. An early takedown and a third-period escape were enough for Bourne to hold off Gamkrelidze and get AU's third of four total wins.
  • Sophomore Jack Maida had an exciting victory at 133, winning 3-1 in sudden victory over Ivan Garcia with a drawn-out takedown well into the overtime period.
  • The biggest win of the day for the Eagles came from redshirt sophomore Jack Nies at 157 pounds as he shut out Conner Decker 8-0 for a major decision. Nies scored all eight of his points in a huge second period including a four-point near fall.
  • The final victory of the day came from redshirt junior Will Jarrell at heavyweight with a 6-2 decision against Charlie Tibbetts that included a pair of takedowns.
  • American lost three bouts by just a single point, with Maximilian Leete (125) falling 3-2, Ethan Szerencsits (141) losing 6-5 and Caleb Campos (165) falling 4-3. Another close loss came at 174 pounds with Lucas White falling 7-5 to Sam DePrez.
