BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The excellence has been on display all season long, and this week
Zeynep Uzen is getting recognized for it as the Patriot League Volleyball Player of the Week. The grad student posted two double-doubles for the Eagles and led American to a thrilling, 3-2 win over league-leading Colgate on October 15.
Uzen averaged 3.70 kills per set and 2.30 digs per set as the Eagles went 1-1 in a week that concluded with them handing Colgate its first PL loss of the year. She recorded a double-double of 21 kills and 12 digs in the five-set victory against Colgate, hitting .385 with only one hitting error. On October 13, Uzen led AU with 16 kills in a 3-1 loss at Navy, making it a double-double with 11 digs.Â
During the Colgate win, Uzen moved into fifth place all-time in program history with career kills, now with 1,578. She is also nearing the 1,000-dig mark for her career and currently has 986 digs. This Patriot League weekly honor is the fifth such career honor for Uzen, who was also named the PL's Preseason Player of the Year.
The Eagles will be back at home next weekend, taking on Loyola Maryland at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20, and Navy at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21.
