Women’s Hoops Looks for PL Road Win Wednesday at Army West Point

WASHINGTON – Coming off a high-intensity win in Bender over Colgate, the American University women's basketball team (4-15, 3-5 PL) will be trekking up to New York to take the court against Army West Point (6-12, 4-4 PL) in their second meeting of the season. The re-match will be another mid-week, evening game for the two programs with the teams tipping off at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 25.

INSIDE THE SERIES
  • The Eagles lead the series against the Black Knights 27-20 overall but fell in the first meeting this season, only two weeks prior, on Jan. 11, 56-77.
  • At Army West Point, American and Army are knotted 11-all, with the Black Knights claiming the most recent home victory 67-62 in the 2021-22 season. It was the first time AU had lost to Army since 2017, before going on to accumulate nine wins in a row in all competitions between the two programs.
  • In the last matchup, the Eagles were led by Lauren Stack with 12 points. The senior forward went 5-7 from the field along with four rebounds.
  • Anna LeMaster and Emily Johns both scored 10 points apiece in the competition. LeMaster additionally had four rebounds and an assist in her first start of the season, her first start in an American jersey.
  • On the glass, the Eagles were led by Ivy Bales who had seven rebounds, six assists, three steals, and six points.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT AMERICAN
  • In their most recent game, the Eagles were home against Colgate, defeating the Raiders 59-57 in dramatic fashion as the final seconds of the game ticked away. In the game, American went 18-18 from the free-throw line. American is third in the Patriot League rankings for free throws, averaging .643 percent for the season.
  • American had been leading by 11 points at halftime and then down one point entering the fourth quarter after a Colgate push-back that saw the visitors outscore AU 21-9 in the third period.
  • The final minute of the matchup against the Raiders saw four ties and Colgate take the lead three times before the Eagles were able to put a bow on the game in the final three seconds to secure the win.
  • Against the Raiders, the Eagles were led by junior guard Kayla Henning who accumulated 12 points. Henning went 8-8 from the charity stripe to accumulate the majority of her points.
  • Bales, who had the game winning two-point jumper with 2.4 seconds left in the contest, finished with 10 total points, six rebounds, two assists and a block for an almost completely stuffed stat sheet line. Bales is the leading rebounder for AU this season (6.1 rpg) and has a league-leading number of steals with 37, averaging 1.9 per game.
  • Freshman forward Molly Lavin and senior forward Lauren Stack finished the game as leaders of the glass for the Eagles with nine boards apiece. Lavin also scored nine points on the offensive end.
  • On the season, American leads the league in steals (159), averaging 8.37 per game and is third in the league in assists with 255, averaging 13.42 per game.
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT ARMY WEST POINT
  • In their most recent outing, the Black Knights were home taking on their rivals, the The Mids of Navy, winning 75-61 to move to 4-4 in Patriot League play. Army West Point went 46% from the field, holding Navy to 39% and had 40 points in the paint to the Mids' 26.
  • Against Navy, Army was led by freshman Reese Ericson and senior Sabria Hunter with 24 and 23 points respectively. For Hunter it was her 12th double-double of the season when she also pulled down 17 rebounds while Ericson's 24 points were a career high for the guard.
  • When the league announced its weekly awards on Monday, Hunter was named the Patriot League Player of the Week and Ericson the Patriot League Rookie of the Week. Hunter average 16.5 points and 15.0 rebounds on .48% shooting from the floor in two back-to-back wins.  
  • Hunter is leading the Black Knights in scoring, averaging 13.5 points per game, and in rebounding, with an average of 11.8 boards per game. Hunter is top of the Patriot League in rebounding ranks at eighth on the conference scoring leaderboard and second in field goal percentage (.548).
  • Kamryn Hall finished the game against Navy with 10 rebounds and eight points. Hall also had three block to bring her season tally up to 20, which leads the Black Knights and is third in the league.
  • Beyond the arc, the Lauren Lithgow has been the powerhouse for Army, leading the team with 33 triples and fourth in the league in the stat. Lithgow went 5-11 against the Eagles when they played in Bender.
  • As a team, Army West Point lead the league in offensive rebounding, averaging 12.8 boards per game and are fourth in the league in combined team rebounds (36.6 per game).
