THE STARTING FIVE
- The Eagles went 2-0 in what was probably the most important week of the season so far, beating out Bucknell, 56-48, and Boston University, 70-57, in Bender Arena. AU got redemption with both wins after losing to both teams on the road last month.
- Wednesday's win was the 151st career victory for head coach Megan Gebbia, making her the winningest head coach in program history. She moved past Jeff Thatcher (1989-00), who hired her for her first assistant coaching job in 1995-96 at American.
- Senior Jade Edwards had her highest offensive output since Jan. 16 (22 pts. at Bucknell) with 17 during the win over the Terriers on Saturday. She went a perfect 6-for-6 from the line and added eigt rebounds, four blocks, and four steals
- Senior Emily Fisher and junior Karla Vres each scored a dozen against BU. Vres, the team's most efficient shooter last season, was back in old form, shooting a perfect 5-for-5 from the floor and 2-for-2 from three.
- With Saturday's win, American continues to establish itself as one of the most dangerous teams in the country on its home floor. The Eagles lead the Patriot League with a .909 win percentage in Bender Arena and are tied for 36th in Division I so far this season.
SCOUTING THE MIDS
- Navy is coming off back-to-back losses to Lafayette, 58-51, and Army West Point, 70-66, on Saturday.
- The Mids battled back from a halftime deficit to take the lead until the final 2:30 of the game when Army hit a closing 8-2 run to take the narrow victory.
- Jennifer Coleman, who is tied for second in Division I with 18 double-doubles so far this season, led all scorers with 24 points, 10 rebounds, and pitched in a game-high eight assists. She went a perfect 7-for-7 from the line.
- Lindsay Llewellyn added 13 points and seven boards, and Mimi Schrader scored 10 off the bench.
- Coleman has been absolutely dominant for the Mids, averaging 22.8 ppg (7th in DI) and 11.0 rpg to lead the league in both categories.
- She also leads the PL with 2.7 steals per game and is second with 4.7 assists per game.
- Sydne Watts is next for the Mids with 10.0 ppg and 3.7 rpg.
SERIES HISTORY vs. NAVY
- American continues to lead the series against Navy, 29-24 after picking up a 69-60 win in Bender Arena on Jan. 29.
- Both teams lead on their respective home floors with AU holding a dominant 25-5 lead in Bender Arena while Navy is 18-12 in Alumni Hall.
- Before the loss last season in Annapolis, the last time AU fell to Navy was the 2018 regular-season finale, 76-49, also in Annapolis.
- Head Coach Megan Gebbia holds a 16-5 record against the Mids since 2013-14.
THE LAST TIME WE MET...
- The Eagles surged to a 69-60 win over Navy in Bender Arena on Jan. 29.
- Taylor Brown paced AU with a career-high 20 points, going 7-for-11 from the floor and 3-for-4 from three.
- Maddie Doring also hit a new career best with three made trey's while Lauren Stack added a career-high eight rebounds.
- Jade Edwards added a dozen points and six assists while Emily Fisher stuffed the stats sheet with 10 points, six rebounds, seven assists, and only one turnover.
- Although Navy's Jennifer Coleman still delivered a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds, the Eagles shut her down in the second half, holding her to only six points and three rebounds.
- American trailed by as many as 10 in the first half but responded well in the second starting with a 20-12 run in the third quarter to take the lead.
#AUWBB vs. THE PATRIOT LEAGUE
- American holds a 208-107 (.660) record in Patriot League play, and an overall record of 265-139 (.656) against Patriot League opponents.
- Included in that are winning records against each team in the conference with the exception of Holy Cross, who has a five-game advantage over the Eagles.
- Head Coach Megan Gebbia has a 100-47 (.680) record in conference play since arriving at AU in 2013-14, and is 13-6 in the Patriot League Tournament, including the program's only two PL titles in 2015 and and 2018.
THE LAST TIME OUT
- American picked up a massive win on Saturday, overcoming Boston University in Bender Arena, 70-57, behind a dominant 40-24 first half.
- Three Eagles closed in double-figures with senior Jade Edwards leading the way with 17 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and four steals.
- Junior Karla Vres had her best performance of the season, shooting a perfect 5-for-5 from the floor and 2-for-2 from three for a dozen points alongside senior Emily Fisher, who also added four assists.
- The Eagles held BU's Sydney Johnson, who entered the game averaging 16.3 ppg, to only nine on the day.
- Edwards was the offensive spark for the Eagles in the first half with 11 of her 17 points, but it was Fisher who turned it on the second half to hold off the Terriers' with 10 of her 12 points.
THE GOAT
- With Wednesday's win over Bucknell, American University head coach Megan Gebbia officially became the winningest coach in program history with her 151st career victory.
- Now in her ninth season with the Eagles, she owns a career record of 152-104 (.594).
- Gebbia passed Jeff Thatcher (1989-00) in the history books. Thatcher, who closed his career with a record of 150-156 (.490) hired Gebbia as an assistant during the 1995-96 season - her first coaching job after graduating from Towson.
- In fact, Wednesday's win made this the winningest STAFF in program history, as associate head coach Tiffany Coll, and assistant coaches Nikki Flores and Emily Stallings have been at AU with Gebbia since she arrived in 2013. Only Director of Operations Nicole Krusen has not been here all nine seasons (this is her sixth year).
SHOOT YOUR SHOT
- The Eagles are averaging only 52.8 FGA per game, but they know how to make them count with a 42.3 FG%, to rank second in the PL behind Lehigh (.426).
- The Eagles sat atop the league rankings for much of the season but have dropped in and out after being held to only a .405 FG% since the start of league play.
- Only seven teams have shot better than AU so far this season - UMBC (.373/.432), Towson (.429/.449), Boston University (.271/.464), Bucknell (.340/.467), Holy Cross (.267/.415), Lafayette (.357/.408), and Colgate (.410/.527).
- The Eagles have put in five games shooting 50 percent or higher so far this season - Army (.549), Colgate (.518), George Mason (.511), Boston U. (.500), and Radford (.500).
- American's .447 field goal percentage in the non-conference was the team's highest since Gebbia took the reins in 2013.
- Jade Edwards leads the team shooting 45.9 percent (96-209), which would put her in second in the PL if she averaged 5 FGM/game (currently at 4.2).
IT'S ALL ABOUT CONTROL...
- AU has struggled with turnovers in the early part of the season, averaging 19.3 through the nonconference.
- They've cleaned up the miscues since the start of league play, though, averaging 13.9 in the last 12 outings.
- The Eagles have also made their opponents pay for their mistakes, though, forcing a league-high 19.2 turnovers in conference play.
- American leads the league with 9.2 steals per game, including 9.7 per game against PL opponents.
PICKIN' POCKETS
- Jade Edwards and Taylor Brown continue to rank among the top in the league for steals, averaging 2.2 and 1.8 per game to rank second and fourth, respectively.
- Brown picked up a career-high four against Marist (11/12) and Colgate (1/5) while Edwards tied hers with five during the win against Longwood (12/18).
- Lauren Stack briefly added her name to the top-10 in the PL after picking up a career-high five steals against Bucknell (1/16). She is third for the Eagles with 1.3/game.
CLOSE 'EM OUT
- American ranks among some of the top perimeter defenses in Division I, holding opponents to only 26.0 percent from long range, including 24.5 percent in league play after holding Bucknell to only 16.7 percent (3-18).
- The Eagles are back atop the league rankings and sit in 15th in Division I for three-point defense.
