WASHINGTON - The 2022 season begins at home for American University lacrosse, with the Eagles set to face Georgetown at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12. Admission is free for all fans to all lacrosse regular season home games, all season long.
HEALTH AND SAFETY PROTOCOLS
- Individuals are required to wear masks to all American University athletics events, indoor and outdoor, per current AU guidelines.
- We also encourage social distancing at all of our venues.
- In order to protect and ensure the longevity of the Jacobs Complex turf for many great seasons to come, we ask your cooperation in refraining from bringing food, coffee or drink of any kind--aside from bottled water, onto the turf at all times.
- Thank you for your cooperation and understanding, and for your support of AU lacrosse.
SERIES HISTORY
- Georgetown has won all four meetings between the two teams, but they have not faced each other in 10 years.
- The last meeting was at Georgetown on March 27, 2012, and the Hoyas came out on top by a score of 17-11.
- The first three contests in the series took place in 1992, 1993 and 1994.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
- American returns 22 players from the 2021 squad, including four fifth years and the eight-player senior class.
- Senior Emma Vinall will look to continue gapping the field in the program record books this season as she returns for a fifth year with a pair of AU lacrosse records already in-hand after she reached her 163rd goal and 188th point in 2021.
- Vinall comes into the season with a third career record in sight as she sits only 14 draw controls away from surpassing Emily Maher's (2011-14) record of 188.
- The program's first All-American in 2020 and the first Eagle since 2013 to be voted onto the First Team All-Patriot League last season, Vinall closed last season ranked seventh among active Division I players for career scoring average (3.62), and 14th for points per game (4.18). She was named to her second consecutive Preseason All-Patriot League Team this season.
- Vinall is one of four fifth-year seniors to return in 2022 along with Kendall Goldblum, Sarah Boney, and Cate Golden.
- While Vinall has been a force on AU's attack line, Goldblum has been a leader in the midfield throughout her career. With 89 goals and 110 points in her career she will look to join Vinall in the program's all-time top five lists. The Wilmington, N.C., native needs 30 goals and 58 points to join the elite group of AU players in each category.
- Eight seniors also highlight the returning Eagles' squad, including four starters from last season with defenders Haley Harkins and Ashley Go, and midfielders Katie Pierce and Stefanie Walsh.
- Head coach Lindsay Teeters returns to the helm of the Eagles for the second season after being tapped to lead the program on June 9, 2020.
- Teeters was a two-time All-American for Boston University from 2002-06 and brought 13 years of experience with her. She saw some early success in her first season, despite the shortened eight-game slate, including a pair of All-Patriot League selections with Emma Vinall and Casey Harkins.
- She is joined by first-year assistant coaches Mary Heneberry Eames and Hailey Dobbins.
SCOUTING THE HOYAS
- Georgetown was picked to finish third in the 2022 BIG EAST Preseason Poll, and had two named Preseason All-BIG EAST.
- Sophomore attacker Kylie Hazen was unanimously named Preseason All-BIG EAST and senior midfielder Annabelle Albert was also recognized.
- Hazen was the Hoyas' top goal scorer in 2021 with 33 goals, was second in total assists with 12 and the leading point-scorer with 45 points. She was the BIG EAST's Rookie of the Year as well as a First Team All-BIG EAST selection.
- Albert was the fourth-highest goal-scorer for the Hoyas last season with 22 goals, and also recorded seven caused turnovers.
- Georgetown won the BIG EAST in 2019. After a canceled tournament in 2020, the Hoyas reached the semifinals in 2021 before falling 15-13 to UConn.
- Head coach Ricky Fried is in his 18th season at the helm and has guided the Hoyas to seven BIG EAST regular season titles and nine NCAA Tournament appearances.
