WASHINGTON - Wins by freshman Caleb Campos and redshirt junior Connor Bourne were the highlights for American University wrestling in a tough match against EIWA foe Army West Point. The Black Knights (2-2) won it 27-6 and the Eagles' season record drops to 2-3 overall.

Notable

• American's first two wrestlers of the match both competed up one weight class.
• Freshman Raymond Lopez, normally 125, wrestled at 133 against Army's Richard Treanor. Lopez scored a reversal and a takedown among his seven points, but ultimately came up just short by a score of 8-7.
• Patrick Ryan made it exciting at 149 with a third-period takedown that gave him a 4-3 lead. At the end of the period it was 4-4, but Army's Matthew Williams scored the takedown in sudden victory time for a 6-4 win.
• Freshman Caleb Campos tied it up 1-1 early in the third period against No. 28 Dalton Harkins at 165 pounds. Campos soon trailed 3-1 before getting a penalty point on an Army technical violation, and then got the AU crowd going with a two-point reversal that wound up winning him the bout, 4-3.
• At 184, grad student Colin Shannon got an escape and a quick takedown to tie the score at 4-4 late in the first period against Sahm Abdulrazzaq. From there, it got away from Shannon and he was on the wrong end of a 10-5 decision.
• Redshirt junior Connor Bourne got American's second win of the day in a low-scoring bout at 197. With an escape, he took a 1-0 lead early in second period, and he held on to Army's Kyle Swartz all the way through the third to prevent an escape and get the riding time point for a 2-0 victory.
• It was the second straight win for Bourne against Swartz after a 10-3 win last January at Army.
• In the heavyweight bout, redshirt junior Will Jarrell tied it up at 1-1 to start the third period, but Kade Carlson scored a takedown with 20 seconds left in the bout and won 3-2.
• Maximilian Leete got an early 2-0 lead on No. 13 Ethan Berginc and led 2-1 at the end of the first, but got just one more point the rest of the way in a very close bout that saw Berginc win 4-3 to finish the day for Army with a 27-6 win.
