WASHINGTON – It will be a homecoming for head coach
Tiffany Coll on Sunday when the American University women's basketball team (0-9) travels to Baltimore to take on her alma mater, the University of Maryland Baltimore County (2-7). The Eagles are looking to capitalize on their full week of preparations after not having played since taking the court against Marist eight days prior.

INSIDE THE SERIES
- American leads the series against the Retrievers 9-5 overall. The most recent matchup in 2021 in Bender Arena saw the Eagles win 55-47.
- Out of the last five games, American has won four; the Retrievers have not won since they hosted the series in 2015.
- This will be American's first trip to the Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena since 2017, when they grabbed a 61-48 win over UMBC.
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT AMERICAN
- Last time out, against Marist, the Eagles were led in scoring by Riley DeRubbo. The junior guard sunk 11 points, with two rebounds, and two assists. She also had a steal.
- Kayla Henning was American's second highest points getter for the second game in a row against the Red Foxes of Marist. Henning had eight points with three rebounds, two assists, and a steal. She also went 2-2 from the free throw line. The junior has cemented herself as an integral part of the Eagles' offense.
- Defensively, Lauren Stack lead the Eagles in rebounding with 11 boards in 29 minutes of play. She was followed up by Ivy Bales; the guard grabbed 11 rebounds and had a steal in 33 minutes of play.
- The Eagles have played two ranked opponents this season in No. 7 Notre Dame and No. 25 Villanova. This is the first time American has played a ranked opponent in regular season play since No. 8 Stanford in the 2018-19 season.
- This season, American has been led in scoring by forward Emily Johns. The junior is averaging 13.6 ppg this season. She also averaging 4.5 rebounds per game.
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT UMBC
- The Retrievers look to bounce back after a four game loss-streak. UMBC have played five road games in a row and will be home for the first time since mid-November against the Eagles.
- Currently on a 2-7 record, the Retrievers opened their season with a win, but haven't won a game since their 64-59 road win over St. Francis Brooklyn on November 20.
- The squad is led in scoring so far this season by Kira Bell, who is averaging 9.2 ppg. The graduate student forward also works defensively, with 11 steals and team-leading 13 blocks on the season while averaging a team-leading 7.6 rpg.
- Graduate student KK White is the Blue Hen's second highest points getter so far this season, averaging 9.0 ppg.
- Ashia McCalla, a graduate student guard is averaging 8.9 ppg. McCalla is tied with sophomore guard Laycee Drake on the season with nine three pointers apiece. Drake also 14 steals in their nine games played so far.
