Swim & Dive Wins 11 Events in a Dual Meet Split with Howard

WASHINGTON - In the first home dual meet of the season for American University swim & dive, the women's team earned a win over Howard and the two teams won a combined 11 events overall. Sophomore Marissa Kleckner and freshman Rhys Davies each won two individual events for the Eagles.

NOTABLE
  • The women's 200 medley relay set the tone early as Sophia Hemingway, Kenzie Cresci, Mimi Watts and Avery Barber teamed up for a victory in 1:47.85.
  • Kleckner's first individual win came in the 1,000 freestyle in 10:48.94, and she later showed her versatility in also winning the 100 free in 54.21.
  • The Eagles finished 1-2 in the women's 200 free with Gabi Suarez (1:59.03) and Lurilla Bereveskos (1:59.13) taking first and second, respectively.
  • Still undefeated in individual events this season is Mimi Watts, who took first in the 50 free in 23.97.
  • Two freshmen took first place in both the men's and women's 200 backstroke, with Hemingway on the women's side (2:08.36) and Nate Colemen for the men (1:57.27).
  • Behind Hemingway, Sasha Uspenskaya and Amaya Tomma finished second and third for a sweep of the top three spots in the 200 back.
  • Cresci earned her second win of the day, and first individual, taking the top spot in the 200 breaststroke in 2:27.21. Behind her was freshman Grace Netz who placed second in 2:28.02.
  • The Eagles' divers put on an impressive performance. For the men, freshman Rhys Davies won both the 1-meter and the 3-meter events. His score of 271.60 on the 3-meter was a PR, and ranks sixth-best all-time at AU.
  • On the women's side, freshman Peyton Thurman took the top spot on the 3-meter with a score of 252.15 that's a PR and ranks seventh-best all-time in program history. Thurman took second on the 1-meter with a score of 227.05.

  • The Eagles will hit the road next weekend for a quad meet at Bucknell, facing the host Bison along with Navy and Lafayette.
