Lacrosse Travels to Bucknell for Saturday Matinee

WASHINGTON - The American University lacrosse team will look to pick up its first Patriot League win of the season this Saturday as the Eagles head to Lewisburg, Pa., for a 4 p.m. draw against Bucknell.

SERIES HISTORY
  • American leads the series against the Bison, 15-10, including a 7-5 record in Lewisburg.
  • The Eagles come into the weekend off a four-game skid against Bucknell dating back to the 2016 season. The last AU victory was a 16-6 performance at home on March 28, 2015.
  • The last time American won on the road against the Bison was a dominant 22-9 victory on March 24, 2012.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
  • AU is coming off a dominant 20-12 win over Longwood on Wednesday, March 24. This was the first victory for the squad in the 2021 season, and the first for head coach Lindsay Teeters after she took the helm during the summer of 2020.
  • Senior Emma Vinall led the overall offensive effort for the Eagles, tying her career-high with nine points off a season-high seven goals and two assists. She also added six draw controls.
  • The All-American is now tied for second in the program record books with 174 career points, sitting only five behind Eleni Vagelatos ('99). She also continues to inch closer to Vegelatos' record in career goals (160) with 151.
  • Classmate Erica Skowron also led the team with a career performance, matching Vinall with seven goals to surpass her previous best (5) from 2020.
  • Three other Eagles contributed to the final score sheet with senior Kendall Goldblum (4g, 1a), and sophomores Emma Hare (1g, 1a), and Stefanie Walsh (1g). Senior Casey Harkins also pitched in a season-high five assists.
  • Vinall is one of the most dangerous players in Division I on free position opportunities. She currently ranks fifth with 1.8 free position goals per game and holds a .818 free position percentage for sixth in the country. She also ranks in the top-10 in goals (6th) and shots (4th) per game, and leads the Patriot League in both categories. 
  • Vinall leads the team with 33 draw controls and 27 points after the first five games of the season (23g, 4a), followed by Casey Harkins with 17 points (9g, 8a), Skowron with 13 (10g, 3a), and Goldblum with 11 (9g, 2a).
  • As a team, AU is one of the most efficient teams in the league when it comes to scoring opportunities, ranking third with a .461 shot percentage.
SCOUTING THE BISON
  • Bucknell enters the weekend with a 1-3 overall record, 1-2 in the Patriot League, with its 15-7 win over Lafayette on March 13. The Bison posted a pair of losses since against #13 Loyola Maryland (21-3) and Lehigh (20-7).
  • Kali Peeples and Julia Bradbury lead the team with seven goals apiece. Katie Wendell holds a team-high 12 points off three goals and nine assists.
  • Eva Macris leads on the defensive end with seven ground balls and five caused turnovers. Midfielder Emily Baird has matched her in both categories while goalkeeper Lauren Kinnee has picked up a team-high eight ground balls.
  • Ella Payer has brought down a team-high 14 draw controls.
  • Kinnee has started three of Bucknell's four games in goal and has 17 saves so far this season. 
  • Caitlin Tucker also put in a start in goal and totaled 21 saves in 98 minutes of play.
