SERIES HISTORY
- American has dominated the series against the Lancers, 7-1, including a 4-0 record at home. The two teams first met in Washington, D.C., on April 1, 1995. The Eagles came out on top during that meeting, 12-7.
- Longwood earned its only win in the series in 1996 with a 12-4 victory in Farmville, Va. Since then, it has been all AU as American picked up wins in the next six outings including a 13-10 decision at Longwood during last year's shortened slate.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
- American dropped to 0-4 on the season after a tight battle against Patriot League foe Lehigh on March 13. The Eagles led by two at halftime, but couldn't find a response to the Mountain Hawks' late run, including a pair of unanswered goals in the final 12 minutes.
- Emma Vinall continues to lead AU, putting in her second consecutive five-goal performance including a perfect 4-for-4 in free position opportunities.
- Kendall Goldblum added a season-high four goals while Emma Hare put away one to close out the Eagles' scoring.
- Vinall is second in the Patriot League with 4.0 goals per game, third with 6.75 draw controls per game, and fourth with 4.5 points per game. She is also third in Division I in free position percentage, putting away 9 of 11 (.818). As a team, American is eighth in Division I after going 12-for-21 (.571) after four games.
- Delaney Oliveira has led the team from goal this season and picked up a career-high 13 saves against crosstown rival George Washington on March 10.
SCOUTING THE LANCERS
- Longwood is coming off its first win of 2021, 16-4 over Delaware State, after opening the season with six consecutive losses.
- Three Lancers put up hat trick against Delaware State, starting with Taylor Blenckstone who also added a pair of assists for a team-high five points.
- Emma Johnson and Emily Cate Smith also added three goals, followed by a pair from Jade O'Connor. Five more players pitched in a goal each for a well-rounded scoring effort.
- Blenckstone leads Longwood's offensive efforts with 24 points after seven games off 10 goals and 14 assists.
- Johnson has a team-high 16 goals and 15 ground balls.
- Dana Joss leads Longwood in the midfield with 28 draw controls and 16 caused turnovers.
- Kylee Wright has started six of their seven games so far this season and has 61 saves (.365).
RECORD BOOK WATCH
- The Eagles will look to continue rewriting the record books this season after earning three program bests in 2020. Emma Vinall and Casey Harkins each came away with single-game program records during the win over Presbyterian to end last year's campaign. Vinall topped Eleni Vagelatos' eight-goal record from 1996, scoring nine to lead the Eagles, while Harkins beat out teammate Erica Skowron's records for points (12) and assists (11).
- Those 11 assists also tied the Division I single-game record, and put Harkins over the top for the single-season assists record (34) and career record (62).
- Vinall also holds a single-season program record with her 65 points in 2019, and a freshman season record for draw controls with 40 from 2018.
- The All-American attacker will now look to continue moving up the career record lists for goals and points. She currently ranks fifth in program history with 165 points and second with 144 goals.
