WASHINGTON – American University men's basketball rounded out its 2021-22 squad with four additions over the summer.
Lincoln Ball and
Jaxon Knotek join the program as transfers from other D-I programs, while
Mason Whittaker and
Pierce Prendergast enter as freshmen.
Ball spent his freshman season just up the street at George Washington. He played in 14 of 17 games during the Colonials' virus-shortened season, starting nine times. He played high school hoops at Williamsport in Williamsport, Md., and was the WCAA Player of the Year twice. As a senior, he was First Team All-State and was the Washington County Player of the Year. He played AAU basketball with current AU sophomore
Matt Rogers on Mid-Atlantic Select.
Knotek spent three seasons at North Dakota State, seeing action in 49 games for the Bison. He played an integral role in NDSU winning back-to-back Summit League championships in 2019 and 2020. He prepped at River Falls in River Falls, Wisc., and was twice named the Big Rivers Conference Player of the Year. The 6-6 guard has three-point range and was twice named All-State in high school.
Whittaker has the longest journey of any Eagle, traveling almost 9,000 miles to D.C. from his hometown of Cust, New Zealand. The 6-9 forward attended Christ's College in Christchurch, New Zealand. He won the 2021 New Zealand national championship with the Canterbury Rams U-19 team. His sister Charlotte plays basketball at Colorado.
Prendergast rounds out the roster as a 6-5 forward from Long Island. He began his high school career at Bayport-Blue Point in his hometown of Bayport, N.Y., before finishing his career at perennial New England prep school power Loomis Chaffee in Windsor, Conn. He played AAU hoops for NY Lightning Select.
The four additions join
Matt Delaney and
Elijah Stephens as newcomers this season. The six-man class joins a roster that returns over 80 percent of its minutes from last season and is looking to make a run to the top of the Patriot League. The Eagles will host Marist at Bender Arena in their season-opener on Tuesday, Nov. 9 at 8 pm.
