Inside Lacrosse Release
BALTIMORE, Md. – American University lacrosse junior Emma Vinall continued the team's history-making season as she was selected as an Inside Lacrosse Media All-American honorable mention on Tuesday, March 31. This is the first All-American honor in AU lacrosse history .
After debuting its inaugural Media All-Americans at the end of the 2017 regular season, Inside Lacrosse is back with its fourth annual survey of ILWomen contributors and members of lacrosse media who are tasked with choosing the 2020 season's top 12 attackers, nine midfielders, 12 defenders, top three draw specialists, and top three goalies. Honorable mention selections are chosen based on players who received multiple votes, but did not accrue the totals of the first, second, or third honorees.
Despite the season's premature end, Vinall was among the leaders of one of the most historic teams in program history, helping guide the team to its first-ever undefeated nonconference run at 7-0. She closed the year atop the Division I rankings for goals (42), goals per game (6.0), and shots on goal per game (7.71). She was also third in the country for points (47) and points per game (6.71), and eighth for draw controls per game (7.86).
American was one of eight undefeated teams left in Division I by the end of the season and ranked within the top 10 in seven categories including leading the NCAA in shots on goal per game (31.86). The Eagles were also second in draw controls per game (20.0), third in scoring offense (19.43), fourth in points per game (27.57), and seventh in assists per game (8.14).
Vinall was one of two AU lacrosse record-breakers alongside senior Casey Harkins. She led the team with a program-high nine goals during the 19-9 victory over Presbyterian to close the 2020 slate.
The Fairfax, Va., native closed the season with a career-high 55 draw controls – only nine away from tying the single-season program record – and a team-high 42 goals. She was second for the Eagles with 47 points and fourth with five assists.
Her 147 career points currently ties for fifth in the program record books while her 128 career goals currently ranks second behind the 160 by Eleni Vagelatos (1996-99).
