All-Time Record: American leads, 13-5
WASHINGTON - The American University women's basketball team (10-14, 6-8 PL) opens its final four-game stretch back at home this weekend with a 2 p.m. tip against Boston University (15-10, 10-4 PL) on Saturday, February 22.
SERIES HISTORY
- The Eagles will look for a bit of redemption this weekend after falling to the Terriers in Beantown on January 5, 59-44. That loss broke a five-game win streak for American that dated back to the 2016-17 season.
- Despite the loss, AU still holds a 13-5 advantage in the young series.
- The two teams first met on Jan. 25, 1981 in Washington where BU came out on top, 78-68. The Eagles and Terriers faced off twice more in the 1980's, then didn't see each other again until BU joined the Patriot League in 2013-14.
- American has dominated the series at home, 9-1, with the only loss being that series debut.
LAST TIME OUT
- Sophomore Jade Edwards posted her third double-double of the season, fifth of her career, to lead AU to a 48-40 win over Navy.
- Edwards scored a game-high 22 points off 8 of 11 from the field, 2 of 3 from three, and a perfect 4 of 4 from the line. She also added a game-high 11 boards.
- The Eagles led Navy in rebounding with a season-high 44 boards while the Mids were held to 39.
- Junior Indeya Sanders was back in double-figures for the first time since Lehigh (Jan. 29), scoring 10 alongside her 8 rebounds.
- Senior Kaitlyn Marenyi tied her lowest output of the season with four points, but found other ways to contribute - she grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds and added three key steals.
- Sophomore Laura Graytok joined Edwards as the only two Eagles to find success from long range. She went 2-for-2 from three for six points.
- AU had a strong start to the game, gapping Navy 9-0 before the Mids finally got on the board at the 5:05 mark. By the end of the first, the Eagles had built a 14-6 lead behind nine points from Edwards.
- The second quarter flipped the story, though, as American hit a seven-minute drought and Navy took advantage with a 10-0 run to pick up a 16-14 lead. A fastbreak layup from Marenyi after a Sanders steal shifted momentum back to the Eagles and by the end of the half AU had rebuilt a two-point lead at 20-18.
- The two teams were locked at 25-24 for nearly 1:30 midway through the third before Graytok sank her first of two treys to break the drought. A closing 7-2 solo run from Edwards gave AU a 37-30 advantage heading into the final stanza.
- Edwards continued that run into the fourth quarter, sinking a layup to give American its largest lead since the first quarter at 39-30. Once again, a four-minute scoreless stretch halted both teams, but the Eagles held the final advantage with a 4-2 run in the final two minutes to close at 48-40.
THE STARTING FIVE

- Indeya Sanders was back in double-figures for the first time in five games with 10 points, and, although Kaitlyn Marenyi was held to only four, she found other ways to contribute with a career-high 10 boards and three steals.
