WASHINGTON - The American University lacrosse team opens the 2020 schedule on the road this weekend with a 1 p.m. draw at Saint Francis.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
- American returns seven starters from the 2019 team that 7-10 for one of its most successful seasons in recent years.
- Among the returners are two All-Patriot League Second Team selections with sophomores Emma Vinall and Kendall Goldblum. Vinall paced the Eagles with a single-season program record 65 points and a team-high 51 goals. She led the league during the conference season with 3.56 goals per game, and tied for first with 6.67 shots per game.
- Goldlum was second on the squad with 38 goals, 47 points and 57 draw controls.
- The pairing combined for 17 hat tricks.
- Vinall opened the season as one of the 16 selections to the Patriot League Preseason All-League team.
- Other key returners for the Eagles include senior Casey Harkins, who led the team with 21 assists last seasn adn was fourth with 39 points.
- Junior Cate Golden leads the returners on the defensive end after earning 18 caused turnovers last season.
- AU also welcomed in a seven-player freshman class with midfielders Sadie Herman (Bridgewater, N.J. / Bridgewater Raritan), Sydney Wender (Larchmont, N.Y. / Mamaroneck) and Tillie Mintz (Park City, Utah / IMG Academy), defenders Grace Brennan (Chadds Ford, Pa. / Garnet Valley), Claudia Holm (Bethesda, Md. / Walt Whitman), and Jane Reffelt (Niskayuna, N.Y. / Niskayuna), and attacker Emma Hare (Alexandria, Va. / Bishop Ireton).
SCOUTING THE RED FLASH
- Saint Francis opened its season with a 15-8 loss to Radford on Saturday with five players adding to the scoresheet behind two-goal efforts from Amanda Heidt, Emileigh Scott, and Autumn McHenry.
- Scott added one of the team's two assists for a team-high three points.
- Scott leads the returners with 47 points last season (44g, 3a), while McHenry ranks first with 11 assists in 2019. Scott also pulled down a team-high 96 draw controls.
- Peyton LeConte and C.C. Courter led the defensive line with 21 caused turnovers last season.
NEXT UP...
The Eagles will open their home slate on Wednesday, February 19, with a 3 p.m. start against Delaware State before hitting the road for a two-game stretch at Longwood (Feb. 22) and George Washington (Feb. 26).
